The long-standing hit of the London musical scene Jersey Boys has been extended with a new line-up that has brought unique vocals and energy.
Jersey Boys has been rightfully awarded numerous awards. Reopened in the summer of 2021 in the renovated Trafalgar Theatre, it swept the audience off their feet with its incendiary hits and touching story of the path to fame, disappointments and victories. The symbiosis of precise choreography and numerous vocal numbers (and there are more than 30 of them) drives a show that keeps you riveted, leaving a sweet aftertaste and a desire to rediscover the real Four Seasons and, see the show again.
The Story
The history of the Jersey Boys is quite famous due to the real story it is based on. Frankie Valli, his brother and colleagues, who together created the outstanding band Four Seasons, gave the world dozens of musical classic hits and got into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. But the way to this peak was not easy. Becoming real TV celebrities took years of bypassing numerous obstacles, both external and disagreements within the group, which eventually led the four to break up.
The musical masterfully shows the dynamics of the relationship between the main characters, delicately balancing between comedy and human drama, rocking the audience on an emotional swing accompanied by the amazing music of the Four Seasons.
The Cast
Luke Suri and Karl James Wilson are not new to this show, they continue to play the roles of Frankie Valli and Nick Massi, and they do an excellent job with that. The emotionality that Luke puts into the experiences of his hero brings the performance to the highest level.
Declan Egan and Peter Nash are also familiar with the story, both performed in the roles of Bob Gaudio and Tommy DeVito, but this is the first time they have gathered on the same stage. And, it is clear that all the actors are a well-established machine, performing tightly packed choreography and amazing songs.
Creative Team
The choreography of the production is striking in its intensity. The scenes of the first act change briskly and the second dramatic act provides an opportunity to enjoy the emotionality of the story and tragic episodes from the lives of Frankie, Bob, Tommy and Nick. The production was directed by Des Mcanuff, and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo. Steve Roach led the orchestra, which maintained the intensity of drama on stage.
Our verdict
Even if you have already seen the Jersey Boys, you should definitely appreciate the new line-up of the magnificent four and enjoy the classic hits of the Four Seasons — “Beggin’”, “Sherry”, “Walk Like A Man”, “December, 1963 (Oh What a Night)”, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”. Though, if you didn’t know about this production, this is the great choice for an evening in London. You will get drama, comedy, and nostalgic retro motifs that are familiar even to the younger generation.
