The Nimaya Experience
Whilst holding a senior position in a London based company that I love; at times, the role can be highly demanding both physically and mentally. With stints of work sitting down at my laptop each day, I started to experience the dreaded aches and pains throughout my neck and shoulders. So, it was time for me to do something about it.
On my first visit to Nimaya, I am calmly welcomed and greeted with the smiles of Nimaya founder, Jamie. The interior is fresh and orderly, with the walls and furnishings housing soft neutral tones, giving off a clean and hygienic feel. The members lounge is small yet cosy and snug. As I sit down and immediately sink into one of the comfortable chairs, I’m instructed to remove my shoes, and instead slip on a pair of clean sliders (this is to avoid people from bringing any dirt from outside into Nimaya, as well as to create a more relaxing experience).
Let’s get started with what to expect inside some of the bespoke treatments in action at Nimaya Mindstation.
Day 1 – Float Pod
To boot off my series of treatments at Nimaya, I’m ready to slip my mind into ultimate relaxation and drift off into the total tranquillity of a Float Pod.
As I lower my body down inside the warm pod and close the door by pulling the partly opened roof of the tank shut, I deposit my body onto my back and close my eyes. Now floating effortlessly, I begin to practice my own meditation techniques (for me, this is simply regulating my breathing with some nice deep inhales and exhales). With my mind harmoniously humming away and my body soothed from the half-a-ton of Epsom salts brushing away at my skin, I transcend into a cheeky nap. With the sound of gentle music now appearing from inside the pod to signal that my 60-minutes were nearly up, my body feels pleasantly harmonious and relaxed.
This recovery process removes 90% of all sensory stimulation, making this experience feel weightless. Studies have proven to relieve aches and pains, calm an anxious or overworked mind, sleep better or enhance your creativity. With the pod heated to body temperature and the water doused with Epsom salts, metabolic and hormonal levels in the body can also be reset.
Day 2 – Advanced Red Light Therapy Bed & Japanese Anma Massage
On my next visit, I’m directed straight towards the Advanced Red Light Therapy Bed. This piece of equipment is just like the lying down sunbeds that you get inside tanning shops. As I remove all of my clothing, I hop onto the pre-heated bed and close the upper part of the hinge door shut. I close my eyes and drop into a meditative state, over the course of the next 20-minutes. The healing energy of both the red and near-infrared light (set at specific wavelengths), begin to warm up my whole body. It feels like lying on a sunny, peaceful beach, bliss!
Advanced Red Light Therapy (or Photo biomodulation), has been proven to be effective in reducing swelling and inflammation, improving skin appearance and alleviating anxiety. This therapy is safe and natural, enabling it to be offered as an alternative treatment for various health conditions such as, muscle pain, joint stiffness and arthritis.
With my muscles now warm and loosened up, I head into a different room to start my Japanese Anma Massage. This full-body remedial massage uses traditional bodywork and is one of the disciplines practiced within Japanese Integrated Medicine. Across the 60-minutes I’m put through a series of different massage methods, with the joints in my body being pulled into soft and controlled motions, manipulating the realignment of my head, pelvis and feet. Boy! Did this feel good! I felt as though my whole body had been reset. Expect the likes of cupping and acupuncture to be combined inside this highly effective treatment.
Japanese Anma Massages are directed at pressure points and meridians on the body. Abdominal massage techniques are also be used to rebalance the organs. So, if you’re looking to activate the flow of energy around the body, then this could be perfect for you.
Day 3 – Infrared Sauna & Whole-Body Cryotherapy
Next, I explore two treatments contrasting in temperature. To begin, I start in the Infrared Sauna, which is similar to the red light therapy effects previously experienced with the Advanced Red Light Therapy Bed. I’ve never been too bothered with using traditional saunas that you may typically find at health clubs, because I find the intense heat uncomfortable. However, this infrared sauna is a game changer. The LED lamps positioned all over the sauna utilise various wavelengths, enabling the infrared light to penetrate 10mm deep into the body’s soft tissue, increasing circulation. Most importantly, there is no uncomfortable dry hot air.
After 30 minutes in the infrared sauna, I am glowing from all the healthy benefits of natural sunlight, without any of the dangerous effects of solar radiation. Up next, Whole-Body Cryotherapy.
Reaching chilling temperatures of up to -110C, this chamber reduces the body temperature through extreme cold application, resulting in decreased inflammation, prompting the release of endorphins, boosted blood circulation and activated healing processes to optimise training and recovery efficiency.
I’m handed a vest, some shorts, thermal gloves and socks, a headband to cover my ears and some slippers. I open the door to this human fridge and walk inside with my bare arms and legs, ready to challenge my pain threshold! With my breathing regulated and under control, the 3-minutes are up and as I walk back out of the chamber, I feel the immediate welcome back to the warmth of room temperature. My mind feels clear and my body energetic.
Day 4 – PandoraStar Light Therapy & Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
To wrap up my time at Nimaya, I finish off with the most advanced light machines of its kind, the PandoraStar Light. Featuring 12 stroboscopic LEDs, this treatment aims to send and guide the brain into a hypnogogic state. The idea behind this therapy is to send you into a deep meditative state of relaxation.
Whilst I’m sitting in the comfortable reclinable chair, I let the light and background music begin its work. As I relax and begin to focus on the lights strobes and kaleidoscopic patterns, I find my brain being partially hypnotised and my body starting to unwind. As the session completes, I feel like my brain has definitely been stimulated.
The concluding treatment brings me to the Hyperbaric Hydroxy Airpod. This unique experience speeds up the body’s own healing process through increased absorption of oxygen by 35-40%. This allows our body to push more oxygen out of the haemoglobin, into the blood’s plasma, which is then absorbed into the tissues to help aid with recovery. As a result, the Airpod supports the body to optimise detoxification, increase energy production, improve recovery and delay the onset of ageing and degenerative diseases.
Now laying down on my back inside the cylinder shaped Airpod, it feels very advanced. As the Airpod starts to build up the atmospheric pressure, within a few minutes I am now at the optimum level of 1.3, which is the equivalent to being 3.5 meters below sea level. The process is smooth and feels similar to the air pressure that you feel from being on a plane.
After 40 minutes of my body consuming the smooth silky purified air, I hop out feeling fresh and clear-minded
