Set along the remote Costalegre coastline of Jalisco Mexico, Las Alamandas is a secret paradise of just eighteen suites spread across 2,000 acres of protected land. Six kilometres of pristine Pacific shoreline wrap around the estate, interrupted only by lushes gardens, palms, and four private beaches accessible exclusively to guests. There are no neighbouring resorts, no visible developments, and no ambient glow from nearby towns. Once you arrive, you are very much on your own, in the best possible way.
There are places that impress you instantly, and then there are places that quietly disarm you. Las Alamandas belongs firmly in the latter category. It does not announce itself loudly, nor does it attempt to compete with the polished theatrics of Mexico’s more commercial luxury destinations. Instead, it offers something far rarer: space, silence, and the feeling of being entirely removed from the modern world.

Arriving
I arrived via Puerto Vallarta, where the warmth of the air already hinted at the change in pace ahead. From there, the journey south felt like a gradual shedding of noise and obligation. The road narrowed, the landscape thickened, and the sense of distance from everyday life grew stronger with each kilometre. Eventually, we turned off the main road and entered Las Alamandas’s bright pink gates and began a nearly ten-minute drive inward through dense greenery. It felt less like an entrance and more like a dream.
Beyond it, the property unfolded slowly. Perfectly groomed lawns, tropical gardens arranged with care, and towering palms lined the approach. At the heart of the arrival stood a grand fountain, elegant but unpretentious, signalling that this was a place of refinement rather than display. Stepping out of the car, I was greeted by the scent of sea salt drifting in on the breeze and the rhythmic sound of waves in the distance. A chilled drink and fresh fruit appeared effortlessly, and with that simple gesture, time seemed to loosen its grip.
A Personal Vision Shaped by Mexico
Las Alamandas is the creation of its owner, Isabel Goldsmith, whose deep affection for Mexican culture is embedded throughout the property. Rather than relying on trends or overt opulence, the design language here feels deeply personal, expressive, romantic, and unmistakably Mexican.
Whitewashed walls are punctuated by arched doorways, hand-painted tiles, and vivid accents of pink, orange, cobalt, and gold. The palette feels joyful rather than decorative, grounding the resort in a sense of place without ever tipping into excess. Architecture and landscape exist in quiet conversation: open terraces blur the boundary between indoors and out, while arched windows frame palms, ocean, and sky as if they were curated artworks.
What struck me most was how naturally the resort sits within its environment. Despite its vast footprint, nothing feels imposed. Buildings do not dominate the land; they seem to emerge from it. I noticed the architectural design of the hotel allowed it to meld seamlessly with the palm tree-lined beachfront. Even when walking through interior corridors, there is always a line of sight to nature, from a garden to a stretch of sea, constantly reminding you that this is a place shaped by its surroundings, not separated from them.

The Presidential Suite
Our stay was spent in the Presidential Suite, and from the moment I entered, it was clear that this was not a conventional hotel accommodation. At over 400 square metres, the suite feels like a private oceanfront home: expansive, yet deeply homely.
The master bedroom, anchored by a king-size bed, opened directly onto a private terrace overlooking the Pacific. Mornings began with light filtering in through open doors and the sound of waves rolling steadily below. The en suite bathroom was designed for lingering: a deep soaking tub, a generous walk-in wardrobe, and a separate double shower that turned even the simplest routines into something indulgent.
One of my favourite features was the dedicated TV room, a quietly tucked-away space that invited rest without distraction. After long days in the sun, it became a welcome retreat, proof that luxury does not always need to be outward-facing.
The outdoor living space was where the suite truly came alive. A private infinity lap pool extended toward the horizon, visually merging with the ocean beyond. Nearby, a Jacuzzi and designated massage area encouraged long, unstructured afternoons. Two hammocks hung beneath the shaded terrace or palm tree, and I found myself returning to them daily, sometimes to journal, sometimes to sketch, and often simply to sit and watch the sea repeat itself.
A large dining area made private meals effortless, whether breakfast in the morning light or dinner beneath the stars. For families or groups travelling together, the Presidential Suite can be connected to an adjoining room, creating a generous private residence ideal for celebrations or extended stays, without ever sacrificing intimacy.

Privacy as a Philosophy
Throughout Las Alamandas, privacy is not an afterthought; it is a guiding principle. Each of the eighteen suites is positioned to ensure complete seclusion, whether nestled within gardens or set closer to the shoreline. Guests are never overlooked, never rushed, and never made to feel part of a crowd.
Here, privacy is about more than physical space. It is about emotional ease. The freedom to move through your days without interruption or expectation. Whether you want to socialise or retreat inward, the resort allows you to do so entirely on your own terms.
Several accommodations can be combined to create villa-style layouts for families or groups, yet the atmosphere never shifts into that of a busy resort. The scale remains intimate, the pace unhurried, and the experience deeply personal.

Design That Invites You to Slow Down
Everywhere you turn at Las Alamandas, there is evidence of thoughtful curation. Orange stone appears throughout the property as a subtle homage to the region’s natural tones. Locally sourced wood, crisp white linens, and traditional Mexican mosaic tiles anchor the spaces in authenticity, while contemporary comforts ensure nothing ever feels rustic or unfinished.
Built-in benches are softened with colourful cushions, fresh floral arrangements punctuate corridors, and lighting is carefully considered. As evening falls, warm tones wash over textured walls and fabrics, giving the entire resort a soft, intimate glow. It is the kind of atmosphere that gently encourages you to lower your voice, linger a little longer, and let the day stretch.

Dining Guided by Land and Sea
Dining at Las Alamandas follows the natural rhythm of its setting. This is very much inspired by the resort’s very own orchard, which is used across the resort. This incredible orchard is a labour of love that really showcases the farm to table concept. Mangos, papaya, passion fruits, lemons, limes and so much more are grown all year round. The orchard at Las Alamandas came from the desire to eat organic and seasonally. The produce is matured on the plant as opposed to a warehouse, so they taste much sweeter.
La Palapa Beach Club sits directly on the sand, where breakfasts unfold with bare feet and ocean air, and lunches stretch lazily into the afternoon. Fresh seafood and tropical fruit dominate the menus, with ingredients sourced organically from the property or nearby waters.
What makes dining here special is its fluidity. Menus change daily, shaped by what is available and what feels right in the moment. I spent hours moving between a hammock beneath the thatched palapa and the shoreline, cocktail in hand, with no sense of urgency to be anywhere else.
Evenings transitioned to Oasis, the resort’s more intimate restaurant. Candlelit and inward-looking, it offered an impressive wine and tequila selection alongside refined interpretations of traditional Mexican cuisine. Dishes felt rooted and familiar, yet subtly reimagined. Comfort elevated rather than reinvented.

Wellness Shaped by Nature
Wellness at Las Alamandas is woven seamlessly into the experience. The spa offers massages, body treatments, steam rooms, and facials, many set in open-air spaces where the ocean provides both soundtrack and atmosphere. A morning yoga session facing the Pacific was grounding and restorative, the sound of waves guiding breath and movement.
For those seeking activity, the resort offers surfing, tennis, kayaking, boating excursions, and horseback riding along the beach. Experiences shaped by nature rather than schedules. There is no pressure to participate, only the option. The beaches are a real focal point at Las Alamandas. The resort boasts 5 km of unspoiled beaches, providing immense privacy and seclusion. Find Playa Las Alamandas by the resort, the main beach known for its gentle waves and, at times, pink-hued sand, ideal for relaxing walks. Our favourite was Playa Las Cuatas: A quiet, scenic spot, often for tranquil morning views and sunrises. We enjoyed a sunset experience overlooking the beaches and it was a magical way to connect with nature.
Nature envelops the whole resort. From lizards, frogs, crabs and more, there is so much life around the 2000 acres which includes lagoons and over 60 miles of hiking trails. We were driven around the resort and we even came across a friendly tarantula crossing a pathway, deep in the flora and fauna.
Nights Beneath the Stars
When night falls at Las Alamandas, the remoteness of the property reveals one of its most magical qualities. With virtually no light pollution, the sky becomes a canvas. Lying back after dinner, I found myself staring upward at an endless display of stars, brighter and more numerous than I had seen in years. The night sky shimmered continuously, an ever-shifting light show that felt almost surreal. It was a quiet reminder of just how far removed this place truly is, and how rare that kind of stillness has become.

A Celebration of Food
From April 1 to April 27, 2026, Las Alamandas will host a rotating series of guest chefs, each taking over the kitchen for a week. Rather than a traditional food festival, this is conceived as an intimate culinary residency. Each chef will create a limited-time menu inspired by their own background and interpreted through local ingredients and the coastal setting.
Guests dine by the sea, interact with the chefs, and experience each menu as a fleeting moment, available only during that specific week. It is gastronomy designed to be savoured, not rushed.

Memories That Will Last Forever
Las Alamandas is a love letter to life. There are some stays that you never forget and leaving felt less like checking out of a hotel and more like stepping back into a louder world. This is not a destination for spectacle or excess. It is for those who understand that the most meaningful luxury is space. Space to breathe, to disconnect, and to simply exist without performance.
Las Alamandas does not demand your attention. It offers you silence, beauty, and time, and trusts that you will recognise their life-affirming value.
