I have tried it all – special neck pillows, vitamins, CBD and too many lavenders infused products. Tiredness and unfocused throughout the day due to lack of sleep, I was sceptical of any possible solutions until I discovered the art of a Japanese treatment called Nosenjyo Parafuse.
So, what is Parafuse?
The Japanese word for 脳洗浄® (Nosenjyo), which is translated in English to “cleansing of the brain” was created and developed by Japanese therapist Emiko Fujikawa, focusing its proprietary method of massaging the cerebral-spinal fluid. This detox helps stimulate a whole list of mental and physical health benefits. The treatment helps remove waste substances through using a relaxing hand massage on the facial muscle, scalp, shoulder and chest, releasing nerves in the deep connective tissue to help the flow of cerebrospinal fluids, as a slow and congested flow can lead to a number of ailments.
The benefits of having better blood and lymph circulation within the body helps to improve many conditions such as:
- Migraines
- Insomnia
- Immune system
- Fatigue
- Damaged hair follicles
- Indigestion
- Edema
- Wrinkles
- And many more

Kanako Kakuzaki
Meeting Kanako, the UK ambassador for Parafuse was a wonderful and educating experience. Her calm and tranquil energy relaxed my mind and body in preparation for the treatment. Kanako, certified as a “Parafuser”, is an international therapist with many years in the beauty industry and has obtained prestigious qualifications in Japan in the art of Parafuse, Sharing the same vision of equality and supporting woman in need around the world.
The treatment plan – four sessions
What I wanted to get out of the four session treatment plan was better quality sleep. Everything is forgotten moments after you lie down on the treatment bed, she began the treatment by stretching my lower body starting from my leg down to my feet and toes, loosening up and stretching the body before is immensely beneficial for the start of each treatment session, helping relax the muscles and improve circulation which removes any stiffness, swelling, or heaviness of the legs.
As I rested the back of my head on the palms of her hands, she began feeling for areas of tension, pressure and stress. The Parafuse method focuses on specific areas and pressure points in the head to relieve blockages in the body’s energy flow, cerebral-spinal fluid, and stimulate blood flow.
Kanako’s hands-on technique uses fingers and hands pressure to provide relief, beginning the treatment with a dry massage starting by applying the perfect amount of pressure on the acupressure points along my temporalis, face, chin, neck and behind my ears, clearing the tension of each area which releases much needed good hormones such as endorphins, serotonin and dopamine. The removal of built-up tension from stretching and massaging my scalp had immediate stress relief and put me in a state of sleepy relaxation.
Much of my day (or life) consists of time on the laptop in uncomfortable positions or looking down at my phone. This means my neck and shoulders have always been a problem area for me. Considering my lifestyle and health concerns, Kanako expertly applies tailored pressure and techniques to each individual’s needs.
She moved on to using an aromatic oil massage on my neck, shoulders, and collar bone, concentrating on the area and relieving knots and tension allowing for better flow. Over an hour-long, the concept of time seems to fade away as I melted into the bed. While it’s sometimes easy to be painfully aware of every move a masseuse is making, Kanako’s techniques felt completely organic and natural, moving seamlessly as one long fluid movement.
Next is the cleansing of the skin, using a gentle foam face wash with unique enzymes to help clean and brighten the face. Serums and organic face oils are applied and massaged into the face and neck using a traditional Japanese “guasha” method, targeting the lymph nodes in the face to reduce stiffness, puffiness and increase micro-circulation. Using the Parafuse method of long and soothing strokes, then finishing with a face pack and bandage facial.
The Results
After four sessions with Kanako, I noticed both short and long-term results of using the Parafuse method. The first immediate result was the feeling of a lighter head and a deep state of relaxation throughout the entire day, my facial features became noticeably slimmer especially my cheekbones and jawline became more defined, giving me a mini facelift. After the first session, I had a tenderness feeling in my neck and head, experiencing sensitivity of the muscles in my face after a hot shower, which is completely normal to feel after a massage treatment, due to stimulating muscles that you may not usually use, you might experience feeling delayed tenderness as a result of improving circulation of blood flow and nutrients to the muscles.
Around the second and the third week was when I began noticing the biggest results of Parafuse. Waking up for me usually consists of a fight between me and the alarm and often I end up going to my appointments with bags under my eyes and a tired puffy face. The drastic change to waking up with energy not only helped me get out of bed with ease but improved the clarity of my mind and mental health, going about my day with a clear mind allowed me to focus further and not be dependent on a constant flow of coffee like before.
As seen in my result photos above, I am able to touch and interlock my fingers around my head which I was not able to do prior due to the accumulation of toxins and waste products around my head resulting in interrupted sleep and insomnia. Removing the build-up of toxins and waste was a relaxing and inspiring experience. Kanako sent me back to the hectic rush of everyday life feeling otherworldly, lighter and noticeably calmer.
