As you may have seen, we are big cruise fans at Luxuriate Life so when we heard about a new floating paradise spot in town called Peggy Jean, we had to go to experience the Instagramable ‘brunching-in-style’ nautical world.
Location
Located on Richmond riverside, South West London; the Daisy Green Collection have once again created a venue that is relaxing and fancy, yet somehow buzzy! Boasting unparalleled views of the River Thames… don’t be surprised if you end up visiting Peggy Jean several times over.
Peggy Jean
The Daisy Green Collection brings relaxed and buzzing Australian food and coffee culture to London creating spaces that become local destinations and meeting points. Previously used as a historic Oxford College barge, the atmosphere provides English boat race charm, blended with laidback Aussie vibes. Cute dogs can be spotted actively pouncing into the water close by, so it comes as no surprise that this is also a dog friendly restaurant.
Spread across two floors, there are options to dine indoors by the snug Captain Hook style bar or outdoors, under one of the many peach-coral-coloured parasols. On the top deck of the boat there are twin Gozney clay ovens; so for those who are inclined to a freshly baked pizza, then Peggy Jean has you covered.
The experience
The menu is a collection of Aussie multicultural classic dishes. Food is carefully sourced and cooked in-house from scratch, combining simple fresh Mediterranean ingredients with hints of Asian flavours and textures.
To start, I tried the charcoal chorizo & San Simon croquettes. Although visually this small dish looks like it’s been torched by the mouth of a fire breathing dragon, it does in-fact taste perfectly cooked and particularly flavourful, especially when paired with the saffron aioli.
For the main, I chose to go with the renowned Dirty Daisy dish. Tater tots, chipotle sour-cream, cheese, chorizo, poached egg, avocado salsa, beans and pickled onions… this savoury sensation is a food clash HEAVEN.
The finale was presented in the style of their famous stuffed Golden Gaytime Pancakes with chocolate ganache, malt crumble, whipped mascarpone, salted caramel sauce and a chocolate caramel tuile. If you’re like me and dislike the fact of feeling defeated at the dinner table, then this pud is the perfect way to end any celebration onboard Peggy Jean.
Opt to start with the spicy margarita if you’re continuing your weekend socialising or the vodka-based watermelon cocktail, for a spirited buzz.
In a nutshell
When considering both the aesthetic and an easy-going quality atmosphere, Peggy Jean has effortlessly created an ideal location for this. Romantic sunsets with loved ones or a cool hangout with friends and family, this is a unique destination for all.
