The newly reopened Wellington Members’ Club on Jermyn Street will be positively purring with delight over the next few weeks as the House of Kittens host their 2019 erotic theatre show, Amatory Asylum.
This is a celebration of both female empowerment and sexuality. This spectacle is performed over two floors of the Wellington and has been created by women of all gender types in what can be described as ‘the sensual pageantries of bygone times’.
Before entering the asylum, I would suggest dinner at the newly opened Wellington Restaurant which is open to non members too. Culinary maestro Brett Duarte showcases a carefully curated Modern European menu such as crispy ox cheeks with jalapeño mayonnaise, Orkney scallops, whole Cornish Dover sole meunière, squash ravioli with black truffle and Scotch Black Angus steaks. What to expect – Amatory Asylum is an immersive theatrical show, so expect to go on a sensual journey using theatrical vignettes, which continuously examine and interpret the expression of pleasures through erotic stories where the surreal, the dramatic and the erotic are all at play.
This unique and sensory experience takes the form of medical observers taking part in an experiment to explore the most carnal of craving. Conducted by Dr Lili La Fleur, head of the Asylum and the presiding physician of sexual psychological studies, you will witness the Asylum’s ground-breaking techniques in psychosexual therapy, before participating in the annual Amatory Asylum Ball.
Sophie Cohen, the founder and director, takes her inspiration from various sources including cult films, fashion, musical icons and underground art. The rock ‘n roll and modern art inspired Interior of the Wellington lends itself well to express Cohen’s bold form of storytelling, combined with exceptional costumes, musical curation and collaborative choreography.
Through conceptual dance and immersive theatre pieces, you will find yourself lost within the surreal and wonderful world created by the House of Kittens. After the show, you can dance into the night with an after party of drag and disco till very late.
