In the heart of West London’s iconic Marylebone neighbourhood, where designer boutiques and stately homes reign supreme, there lies a hidden gem of gastronomic excellence. Tucked away amidst the picturesque cobbled lanes of Marylebone Village, 108 Brasserie stands as a beacon of culinary innovation and community spirit. As you wander beneath its striking awnings and onto the inviting grand terrace adorned with ivy, you’re transported to a world where Sunday dining is elevated to an art form—an experience that is nothing short of extraordinary.
Venture inside, and you’ll find yourself enveloped in the warm embrace of bold red leather banquettes and a buzzing brasserie atmosphere—an inviting backdrop for indulging in Sunday lunch with a generous helping of style. The crowd is a mix of hotel guests and those with plans of gatekeeping one of London’s most superb roast dinners.
But before you dive into the main event, take a moment to savour the anticipation with a glass of perfectly chilled bubbles or summon forth the soon-to-be-famous Bloody Mary trolley. Laden with an enticing array of spirits, mixers, and delectable garnishes (crispy bacon, anyone?)108’s mobile bar crafts the perfect serve, tailored to your exacting specifications.
Guided by the skilled hand of the master mixologist, your custom Bloody Mary is meticulously concocted, and crafted with precision and care to suit your preference. Whether you crave the fiery kick of bold spices or the comforting richness of savoury flavours, the options are boundless; we naturally went for two with one hell of a fiery kick, there might have been another two chasers. But, be prepared to trail Facebook Marketplace for hours on end searching for your own Bloody Mary trolley, our server was not letting their pride and joy go without a fight.
With our Sunday livener in hand, we turned our attention to the opening acts—an array of tantalising starters that set the stage for the feast to come. Whether you opt for the beef tartare with quail egg, crispy capers, and toasted sourdough; the Chapel & Swan Suffolk smoked salmon with dill crème fraiche and lemon & Guinness bread; or the Devon white crab with toasted soda bread and watercress, each dish is a symphony of flavours that whets the appetite, prepare to unfasten. We devoured six Jersey Rock oysters alongside the beef tartare; decadently rich and married harmoniously with the quails egg yolk.
At this point, our prayers had been answered. The Bloody Mary trolley returned.
Now it was time to indulge in the pièce de résistance—the sumptuous roasts that command the spotlight. Offering an enticing selection of specials to choose from, including the succulent West Country minted lamb rump, the indulgent roasted rib beef, or the fragrant half-roasted thyme and rosemary corn-fed chicken. Each dish arrives accompanied by an ever-replenishing array of Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes, complemented by buttered root vegetable mash, spring vegetables, and generous lashings of gravy—a veritable feast fit for all gourmands.
We savoured both the lamb and the beef, Yorkshire puddings abounded, their comforting presence filling the air with the most ASMR-friendly sounds imaginable. It was a culinary symphony that delighted the senses and left us equally round and as puffy.
And if that’s not enough to satisfy your Sunday cravings, 108 Brasserie offers a selection of additional sides to top up your plate. From spiced red cabbage with Granny Smith apple & crispy onions to cauliflower cheese with Pitchfork Cheddar crumb, there’s something to please every palate. Post roast, this all sounded grand and possible in hindsight; bring your appetite! We opted for the cauliflower cheese, and it was sublime.
Try and save room for dessert, for no Sunday lunch would be complete without a sweet treat to round off the meal. Indulge in classic vanilla crème brûlée with English shortbread, Bramley apple, rhubarb, and ginger crumble with English custard, traditional sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream ice cream, or a rich chocolate ice cream sundae with fudge & biscotti. And for the savoury devotees, the British cheese selection with oat crackers and ale chutney from Marylebone locale La Fromagerie promises a fitting finale. We finished with the classic vanilla crème brûlée with English shortbread and the sensationally good sticky toffee pudding.
With the Bloody Mary trolley firmly out of sight, until next time, we hope; 108 Brasseries’ Sunday Lunch is the perfect laid-back Sunday destination—a haven of culinary delights nestled in the heart of Marylebone Village.
