Situated on the Deanery Street corner of the hotel, The Dorchester have opened their new sweet concept – Cake & Flowers – a collaboration between The Dorchester’s in-house florist Philip Hammond and executive pastry chef Michael Kwan. Together, they have created a jewelled boutique with a selection of takeaway cakes, bouquets, and gift hampers.
Since 1931, The Dorchester has been a staple hospitality establishment in London, providing sophisticated luxury in the heart of Mayfair. The hotel has become a destination for travel and experiential dining, housing Michelin-starred restaurants among the spacious suites and stunning amenities. Cake & Flowers is The Dorchester’s newest addition to this legacy.

Philip Hammond
Philip has been designing floral arrangements for The Dorchester since 2010 and is responsible for creating the hotel’s signature rose variety, The Dorchester Rose. For over a decade, Philip has created unfailingly beautiful displays, from directing seasonal floral themes for the hotel’s public spaces to custom arrangements for weddings and banquets.

Michael Kwan
Though Michael joined The Dorchester team just last year, he has made an impact with his trademark award-winning style, focusing on delicate yet vibrant cake designs. He leads a 25-strong brigade of chefs and bakers responsible for creating the hotel’s signature desserts as well as cakes for weddings, parties, and events. Michael previously held head pastry chef positions at Hotel Café Royal, Ladurée, and Duddells and positions within the pastry brigades of Michelin-starred restaurants.

Michael’s menu highlights include a rose-petaled cake with jasmine cream, compressed pear, and coconut crunch inspired by The Dorchester Rose; a Blossom Pavlova cake flavoured with citrus, yuzu, and bergamot meringue; and The Tree Cake, which will change seasonally with flavours like cherry blossom tea mousse and sour cherry for spring.

Paris-based interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon delicately placed mirrors, marble counters, and ornate mosaic floors about the boutique for a sense of French joie de vivre. The displays are just as much a part of the shopping experience as you take in the cake and floral creations which will change throughout the year. The highly-detailed creations will be available to purchase ahead of time on The Dorchester’s website or in person at the boutique.
