In April 2021, Celebrity Cruises unveiled the third luxury ship in the Edge series, Celebrity Beyond. The ship is designed to bring luxury to the sea while giving you the opportunity to disconnect from the world and reconnecting to the surroundings.
Celebrity Beyond’s maiden voyage from Southampton last month was a 10-night Western Europe cruise stopping at Bordeaux, France; Lisbon, Portugal; and Seville, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona, Spain. After that, Beyond will offer cruises to Italy, France and the Greek Isles before going to the Caribbean at the end of 2022. But first, Luxuriate Life experienced a two day experience aboard Celebrity Beyond.
Girl Power on Celebrity Beyond
Kelly Hoppen CBE, Nate Berkus, Jouin Manku and Tom Wright worked together to redefine the luxury experience at sea. Kelly is one of the most renowned interior designers in the world, and her artistic direction and reimagining of the brand’s signature venues and amenities makes Celebrity Beyond the luxury ship it is.
Captain Kate McCue, the first American female cruise ship captain, will be in charge of Celebrity Beyond, having previously captained Celebrity Summit, Equinox and Edge. With her experience, charisma and expertise, Kate has wanted to be captain of a ship since she was 12 and is continuing to break boundaries while inspiring and encouraging others to follow their dreams.
Celebrity Beyond also boasts the first ever “Women in Wellness” initiative, a premium at sea wellness programme. It is led by an all-women team including Yoga Professional founder Katie Brauer, Elemis co-founder Noella Gabriel and SoulCycle co-founder Ruth Zukerma. These women are a collection of yoga, wellness, skin and body experts and have designed a curation of spa treatments, fitness classes and mindfulness experiences at sea.
The Cabins
There are numerous types of cabins with many offering balconies. There are various staterooms that have ample space, state-of-the-art bathrooms and incredible views so that you can enjoy the ocean view wherever you are.
In The Retreat, the two-floor Edge Villas and Iconic Suites are designed for the ultimate mode of relaxation. With views as good as any, a Personal Retreat Host and luxury amenities such as cashmere designed mattresses /plush Frette robes, you’ll have everything taken care of.
In the AquaClass Sky Suites, wellness is instrumental as the cabins are ultimately designed to nourish your mind and body. Spa infused elements are present from the design of the space to the amenities, including a massaging showerhead and eco-friendly bath products.
Sustainability and going green is a large part of Celebrity, and that’s showcased in their initiatives as well as their products all across the ship.
Things to do
Celebrity Beyond has a multitude of options for venues to relax in, all decorated with interiors that emulate luxury at sea.
The Rooftop Garden and Resort Deck boasts great views of the open water. 15 decks above the sea is the 90-ton Magic Carpet, a great place to experience the sailaway. For a place to socialise and lounge, the Grand Plaza is even vaster than before and the three-story venue Eden has endless daytime activities to fill your day.
In The Theatre, productions use state-of-the-art technology to put on stellar entertainment. Elements takes you on a journey through air, water, earth, fire and ether, featuring kinetic fabric sculptures. Stage Door provides immersive performances accompanied by a full symphony orchestra and allows you to experience the biggest Broadway and West End musicals.
The Jazz Joint pairs cold drinks with swinging tunes, electrifying dancers and memorizing acts. Wonder at Eden changes nightly with new fusion experiences filled with music, libations and interactive experiences that awaken your senses.
Wellness on the Water
In addition to the AquaClass Sky Suites, the Spa and gym are equipped to help enhance wellness and relaxation while on vacation, catering to your own fitness goals. Celebrity Beyond is also offering an expanded F45 Training regimen that specialises in high-intensity group workouts.
To curate wellbeing initiatives, goop’s CEO Gwyneth Paltrow serves as Celebrity’s Wellbeing advisor, taking charge of the in-room fitness menus, TV programming and signature smoothies.
Luxury restaurants and bars at sea
The multitude of luxurious dining options will only enhance your amazing experience at sea. With 8 specialty restaurants, 14 cafes, bars and lounges and an impressive 32 food and beverage experiences, there is no shortage of options.
Michelin-Star chef Daniel Boulud’s Le Voyage is his first restaurant at sea. Celebrity is partnering with drinks giant Diageo for an extensive wine collection too. The Sunset Bar, Cyprus Restaurant, Rooftop Grill, Cafe al Bacio and Dinner on the Edge are only a few places on board to enjoy some fine hospitality. Though some specialty restaurants aren’t complimentary, there are endless complimentary options (four main restaurants and even more cafes) that are suited to every palette.
Cuisine styles range from seafood to steakhouses, Greek to Italian, French to American. Whatever you’re craving, there is a restaurant bound to satisfy your taste buds.
Visual Sensations Aboard
With over 4,000 pieces of art on board, Celebrity has partnered with some of the best artists in the world to visually accompany your journey, curating a contemporary art collection at sea
Celebrity Cruises is also launching a new initiative titled the “All-Inclusive Photo Project” (AIPP) to start a movement and call upon travel companies to help address the lack of diversity in travel marketing imagery. Works have been released from acclaimed photographers Giles Duley, an English documentary photographer and a triple amputee; Naima Green, a Black, queer New York-based photographer; and Jarrad Seng, an Australia-based photographer, filmmaker and creative director of Malaysian-Chinese descent, all highlighting individuals from underrepresented communities.
