A Decade of Delamina EAST in Shoreditch
To mark its 10th anniversary this year, Delamina EAST is celebrating its success as a mainstay in Shoreditch’s dining community. Limor and Amir Chen opened their restaurant in 2016, and over the course of 10 years, they have developed a loyal customer base with representations of Eastern Mediterranean cuisine and true neighbourhood hospitality. Delamina has become not only a thriving restaurant, but a recognised Shoreditch institution.
From Shoreditch House Residency to Local Institution
Limor Chen got his start at a residency in Shoreditch House where his flavour-packed dishes quickly earned a loyal following. Buoyed by the support of the local community, the couple opened the restaurant on Commercial Street in 2016. Delamina introduced Shoreditch diners to a new perspective on Eastern Mediterranean cuisine while reflecting the founders’ personal heritage and experiences. The restaurant’s walls, covered by Limor’s artwork and family photographs, help create the warm, welcoming atmosphere that has become central to the authentic Delamina experience. The menu draws on recipes and dishes past down many generations of Eastern Mediterranean cooking. Over the past decade, several dishes have received great feedback from customers including the roasted cauliflower, hand-pulled shawarma, and vanilla cheesecake nest. Yet few dishes are as closely associated with Delamina as its celebrated hummus.
The Hummus That Won Over London
London has no shortage of excellent Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurants, making the competition for amazing hummus particularly challenging. Nevertheless, Delamina’s hummus is often named one of London’s finest, particularly in its simplicity and authenticity. Londoners have praised its hummus for its texture, freshness, and depth of flavour. They describe it as sleek, tangy, and perfectly paired with fresh garnishes and bread. What makes exceptional hummus difficult to produce is its careful balance of chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice and garlic. Hummus experts often credit the quality and freshness of Delamina’s ingredients for its iconic hummus.
Celebrating Ten Years with Special Anniversary Events
The restaurant’s success extends beyond its iconic dishes. Many guests return year after year, making Delamina EAST part of their family traditions and celebrations. To celebrate its 10-year anniversary, there will be a series of events celebrating the restaurant’s first decade. To kick off the celebration, The Founders Dinner on 10 June featured signature dishes, favourite plates, and memorable moments of Delamina over the past decade. Following this, Pour & Plate will feature wine tasting sessions to match the Eastern Mediterranean food served at the restaurant.
Similarly, the restaurant hosts Free-Flow Sundays which include ninety minutes of all-you-can-drink alongside their brunch menu. For the remainder of the summer, Delamina is also introducing Friday Night Feast, a feast featuring generous sharing plates, free-flowing wine, and the social environment that the restaurant has become known for. The anniversary celebrations conclude with a special Instagram promotion, the 10-Year Instagram Competition, with ten winners each being granted 30% off their total bill for a year. All of these festivities are meant to recognise how far Delamina EAST has come, starting from its Shoreditch House pop-up, to becoming a dining landmark in East London.
Looking Ahead: Delamina’s Continuing Legacy
The Delamina story has been growing since the opening of its flagship location in Shoreditch, with two new locations opening in Marylebone in 2018 and Townhouse in Covent Garden in 2024. Delamina EAST remains the original heart of the Delamina brand — it’s where founders Limor and Amir Chen first brought the vision of Eastern Mediterranean hospitality to London.
As Delamina EAST prepares to mark its 10th anniversary, it’s more than just a decade of great food; it’s about the community, staff, and loyal guests who have supported Delamina throughout its history. Anniversary celebrations will run throughout the year, beginning with the Founders’ Dinner on June 10.
