The Luxaviation Group is one of the largest and most interesting private aircraft operators in the world, branching out into more than just jets but more recently luxury experiences and even fine wines. George Galanopoulos is a founding member of Luxaviation UK and has over 20 years of experience in commercial flying and Charter Management. He is an authorised examiner for the Civil Aviation Authority, a council member for the BBGA and a Fellow of the Guild of Air Pilots and Navigators.
We caught up with George to talk about Luxaviation and the private aircraft industry.

How did it all start?
George Galanopoulos: I started my career in aviation in 1985 when I worked as a pilot for 15 years. My role provided me with in-depth knowledge of the operational side of the aviation business, as well as practical flying experience. While I loved being able to visit new places as a pilot, I always had the desire to pursue a slightly different path.
I went on, with my business partner, to establish business aircraft operator, London Executive Aviation, which evolved to become one of the largest private jet operators in the UK. In the early days of that ambitious dream, working as the sole aircraft operator allowed me to gain a thorough understanding of each stage of an aircraft’s operation, including safety and compliance matters.
Since joining Luxaviation Group in 2014, London Executive Aviation is now known as Luxaviation UK. Being part of a highly acclaimed, global private charter operator like Luxaviation Group aligns with our commitment to delivering unparalleled travel experiences for our esteemed guests around the world.

What services do you offer at Luxaviation?
George Galanopoulos: Luxaviation’s charter service carries one of the largest global fleets in business aviation. Comprising more than 200 jets and helicopters, our extensive fleet enables us to provide our high-calibre clientele with tailored flight plans to accommodate their personal schedules – whether they be world leaders, sports teams, music artists, business executives or clients going on holiday.
In addition to our charter service, Luxaviation also offers an aircraft management service. With bases and 15 AOCs (Air Operating Certificates) in many countries across the globe, we are able to provide unique and tailor-made solutions to our aircraft owners. Having our own in-house Continuing Airworthiness Management Organization (CAMO) in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, we provide everything from flight planning and tracking to recording scheduled maintenance requirements for aircraft. This includes round-the-clock aircraft on the ground (AOG) support to guarantee our valued customers a positive and secure flying service.
We believe the customer experience extends beyond time spent in the air. Our global network of more than 120 Fixed Base Operations (FBOs), under the brand ExecuJet, enhances the entire travel experience and enables us to foster genuine relationships with passengers. The Luxaviation Client Service Academy provides our staff with quality training to offer the very best standard of customer service, while also extending itself to other businesses wishing to excel in delivering luxury service.

Tell us about what makes Luxaviation different?
George Galanopoulos: Luxaviation UK has consistently demonstrated its unmatched commitment to excellence, earning it ‘Best General Aviation Operator’ at the Baltic Air Charter Association (BACA) Excellence Awards six out of the last nine years. Our operational staff and cabin crew prioritise our clients’ individual needs and ensure every request is met, down to the finest detail.
We frequently talk with our jet owners and passengers about industry trends to gain insight into their personal preferences and evolving expectations. This has allowed us to build and sustain relationships for more than three decades as we continually refine and enhance our luxury services. Ultimately, we believe that the strength in our customer relationships is a credit to the relationships between colleagues. Through our community engagement approach, Luxaviation UK maintains a rewarding work environment to deliver a premium experience to our clients, which is unparalleled by our competitors.

How do you inspire young people to join the industry?
George Galanopoulos: Embarking on a career in aviation is an exceptional choice, as it offers boundless opportunities in an evolving sector. As the industry continues to be faced with pilot and crew shortages following the Covid-19 pandemic, now more than ever we need to be encouraging young people to pursue a career in aviation. However, there’s no doubt that the high costs involved in becoming a pilot are limiting potential growth opportunities. I believe that there needs to be greater education for inspiring aviation professionals, particularly women, about the different opportunities available, such as scholarship schemes.

What other key topics are you covering in your View from the Top videos?
George Galanopoulos: So far, we have produced five episodes that cover aircraft charter, the role of the aircraft sales broker, aircraft management and most recently, pilots. It’s been great to speak with so many interesting individuals and friends from across the industry; such as Steve Varsano from The Jet Business, Emily Williams from Private Aviation Advisor, Oliver Stone from Colibri Aircraft, Alex Durand from Saxonair and Captain Chris from Airline World; delving into topics ranging from the crucial aspects to consider when chartering an aircraft to people’s personal experiences working within private and commercial aviation.
But business aviation is such a vast and diverse industry, it’s hard to limit the conversation to just one small segment. Therefore, in the coming weeks, we plan to produce some further episodes. We hope to explore other areas of the industry such as eVTOLs, the importance of regional airports and aircraft ownership – watch this space!

How do you minimise your ecological footprint as a company?
George Galanopoulos: We understand the importance of addressing issues surrounding sustainability within the industry and endeavour to implement numerous initiatives to reduce our impact on the environment. Our company-wide carbon offsetting programme compensates for carbon emissions that can’t otherwise be avoided and allows passengers to invest in high-quality nature-based projects that are providing renewable energy, conservation, and reforestation initiatives.
Having said this, the company at large acknowledges that simply offsetting carbon emissions is no longer sufficient. We recognize that Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) presents a more expensive alternative, but we firmly believe, based on our observations thus far, that many clients are willing to invest in it. This belief has proven successful for us, and we hope to inspire other operators in the industry to join us on this sustainable journey. We are committed to pushing the boundaries and driving the industry toward a more environmentally responsible future. By prioritizing SAF and exploring innovative solutions, we strive to make a positive impact while ensuring the longevity of private aviation.

What is your favourite aircraft and why?
George Galanopoulos: I’ve always had a passion for aviation and with the range of different options available, choosing a favourite is a tough challenge. I love the speed, range and spacious interiors offered by the Bombardier Global 6500/7500 and Gulfstream 600/700, as they offer the long range and comfort that many of our clients looking for. That being said, I also love smaller jets like the midsize cabin Cessna Citation XLS as it provides a more intimate setting, offering a private atmosphere for a truly exclusive experience, at a reasonable cost. Ultimately, each jet in the fleet guarantees a luxury travel journey.

What is next for Luxaviation?
George Galanopoulos: We are currently witnessing a resurgence in demand and an increase in inquiries, indicating a positive market trend and a busy summer season. We anticipate welcoming new customers and expanding our fleet with more efficient aircraft options.
Our expansion is facilitated by our growing network of FBOs. Most recently, the company has entered a partnership with Germany’s Kurz Aviation Service. These strategic partnerships enable us to secure favourable pricing and supplier contracts, ensuring the best possible deals. Furthermore, our staff members will have the opportunity to work across various locations, fostering strong bonds among colleagues and a chance to share knowledge to ensure the consistent deployment of the highest standards within our industry. We also look forward to working together to minimise the environmental impact of all our locations, as we continuously explore ways to enhance sustainability practices.
