It was a very special year for Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa. On Tuesday 18th June 2024, CEO Sanjiv Ramdanee reintroduced the newly reopened boutique hotel to friends & VIPs at Royal Ascot. After a full closure in 2023 where the property went through a complete renovation, the exceptional resort awaits guests seeking exclusive luxury and outstanding service.

Maradiva Royal Ascot Relaunch
With the Royal Ascot being the most sought-after event of the season where Royals, aristocrats, prominent business tycoons and celebrities gather for a week of fun and betting, one could not find a better relaunch platform for one if not the most top end properties of Mauritius. It was the ideal way to introduce the ‘new’ Maradiva to existing and new VIP friends who are after all Ambassadors of the brand in the UK and internationally.
The host was accompanied by his daughter and the latter’s best friend, who is none other than Miss Venezuela 2023, helping Sanjiv to entertain his guests with a superb lunch and lots of bubbles during the entire day. Celebrity fashion designer Isabell Kristensen congratulated them both on their impeccable dresses and matching hats, while The Hon Viscount Norwich was most keen to learn more about Mauritius since his maternal grandfather was none other than Sir Bede Clifford, one of the ex-Governor Generals of the island during the British colonial times.

As always, a jolly bunch of A list society names joined the box with regulars like H.H Princess Olga Romanoff with her bestie society and TV celebrity Lady Colin Campbell, both talking lengthily with Tamzin Reynolds. Prince Dimitri and Princess Marina Lobanov Rostovsky arrived fashionably late but in good spirits since they had stopped for a first drink at another box (we suspect it was the Royal Box), and they were joined by model Laurence Gardedue – the face of the exquisite London jeweller Maximilian, who was wearing the most eccentric hat.

A Villa in Paradise
The renovated Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa is the epitome of discrete luxury, with spacious villas, lush gardens, and views of the coast and world heritage site Le Morne Mountain. The design of the establishment draws heavily from the grand residences of Mauritius’ colonial past, and blends impeccably with the preserved environment with only 64 villas spread over 27 acres of natural land.

in 2023, Maradiva partnered with internationally recognised agency Hirsch Bedner Associates, HBA, and local agency, VK Design to update its traditional aesthetics and authentic Mauritian heritage to better cater to the needs of guests looking for a uniquely elevated experience. The result is an aesthetic which is both luxurious and minimalist, featuring black basalt from the island, Jaisalmer wood from Rajasthan, Palisander wood from Madagascar, and teak from Burma.
The villas feature amenities such as heated private pools, multiple Smart TVs with satellite channels, BOSE home cinema sound systems with Bluetooth, mini bars, and, of course, office space. Some villas offer additional amenities such as terraces for alfresco dining and/or sun loungers. The Presidential Suite Pool Villa also offers 2 cabanas by the pool, a home cinema, and dedicated 24-hour butler service.

Dining and Experiences
A range of restaurants are available at Maradiva to cater to a range of guests. The Cassine is the ideal place to enjoy gourmet Mauritanian and Mediterranean dishes in relaxed modern elegance with lush trees and the sparkling Indian Ocean as a backdrop. Other options include North Indian and fusion fine-dining at Cilantro, and Haiku, where you can opt for a traditional Japanese dining experience crafted by Chef Kawaguchi or a theatrical Teppanyaki bar experience. The laid-back Lantana bar provides exceptional cocktails and superior liqueurs, as well as a selection of premium cigars.
Living up to its reputation for exceptional service, the staff at Maradiva is dedicated to making your stay a real experience. Highlights include the Rolls Royce Picnic, an all-day tour of the island in a Rolls Royce Phantom booked and personalised by the Concierge. The tour includes a gourmet, customisable picnic prepared by the resort’s chefs and presented in a Rolls Royce Picnic Hamper crafted out of fine oiled teak, hand-polished aluminum, and saddle leather. Guests with an appreciation of the arts are recommended to stop by the Art Gallery, where work by emerging artists can be purchased and art classes can be booked as a result of Maradiva’s artist-in-residency program.
Of course, the resort also includes all the spaces one would typically expect to find, including a spa, a fitness centre, two flood-lit tennis courts, and a boutique store featuring work by internationally recognised designers. The Peter Pan Kids Club ensures that the vacation can be enjoyed by the whole family, while nearby sports clubs cater to lovers of golf and watersports.
