In the past, luxury cars were reviewed based on standard mechanical benchmarks: raw engine displacement, smooth horsepower delivery, top-tier leather, acoustically refined cabins. But today, as we redefine what it means to live well, priorities in modern luxury have drastically shifted. Now, elements like emotional alignment, personal wellbeing, mindful design, and seamless experiences matter just as much, if not more, than aggressive performance metrics alone. Entering this new landscape, Bentley Motor Cars introduces its fourth distinct model line: the all-new Bentley Torcal.
A New Chapter for Bentley
On 23 September, Torcal joined an illustrious range of Bentley models, including the Continental GT, Flying Spur, and Bentayga, thus marking an important chapter in the history of British car manufacturing.
Bentley has increasingly looked to landscapes for its names, and the Torcal follows that tradition. It takes its name from El Torcal de Antequera in Andalusia, where limestone formations rise into strange, twisting shapes and narrow natural passages. The name itself comes from the Latin torquere, meaning “to twist.” It is an appropriate title, given its instant electric torque, making it the most powerful and fastest-accelerating Bentley in the marque’s 107-year history, while still sitting firmly within the tradition of the grand tourer.
However, the true appeal goes well beyond straight-line speed. With the Torcal, Bentley has delivered a masterclass in tactile craftsmanship, creating a living interior environment and delivering a form of luxury that puts wellness first.
Unbridled Power in an Electric Era
Underneath its serene surface, the Torcal marks a monumental shift as Bentley’s first fully electric vehicle, built upon the high-performance Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture. Measuring five metres in length as a low-slung, five-door luxury crossover, it becomes the shortest four-door entry in the lineup while maintaining exceptional spatial proportion.
The range opens with the standard dual-motor all-wheel-drive Torcal, outputting a staggering 809 bhp and 1,194 Nm of instant torque to reach 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds. For those seeking peak sensation, the flagship Torcal S elevates output to 876 bhp and 1,350 Nm, launching from 0 to 100 km/h in an astonishing 2.9 seconds with Launch Control engaged.
Powering this new realm of electric grand touring is a 113 kWh battery operating on an advanced 800V system. The Torcal grants a range of up to 375 miles (600 km) on a single charge. When replenishment is required, support for 400 kW DC ultra-fast charging transforms a quick pause into over 150 miles of added range in just ten minutes, taking the battery from 10% to 80% in as little as 16 minutes.
A Cabin Made for Living
Step inside, and you’ll immediately notice that the interior isn’t what you’d expect from a typical motor vehicle; the atmosphere feels closer to a private lounge than a mechanical cockpit.
A clear highlight of this elevated interior story is Bentley’s introduction of 100% merino wool for the upholstery. Although fine lambswool is not novel in terms of tailoring and interior design, it has traditionally lacked the durability needed for use in cars.
To tackle this problem, Bentley’s interior designers worked directly with Fox Brothers in Somerset, a renowned English cloth manufacturer which has a long history of making fine wools since the 1700s. Together, they developed a special weave that is strong enough for everyday driving, while also remaining soft to the touch and naturally breathable, giving the cabin organic warmth, tactile texture, and a sense of understated sophistication.
To keep up with this natural textile, there are new technical finishes as well. The Torcal introduces an aluminium trim featuring a dynamic three-way brush pattern—a modern, tactile take on the historic “engine-turned” dashboards found in early motorcars.
Simultaneously, the classic woodwork has also been upgraded through Bentley’s new Ombre veneer. To achieve a subtle, fluid gradient where walnut tones flow seamlessly from light to dark across the dash, Bentley presses up to a thousand hand-selected layers of natural walnut together and slices them into sheets under a millimetre thick. What’s left is a piece of contemporary art rooted in centuries-old woodworking heritage.
Mood-Driven Colour Aesthetics
Bentley brings the same focus on atmosphere to its colour palette as it eschews the sharp contrasts common of luxury car interiors and instead utilises colour to determine the mood and feel of the space. Each colour combination is carefully chosen so the tones blend, creating an interior that feels both unified and personal.
Hotspur and Cricket Ball: A blend of vibrant and deep crimson reds that creates a rich, layered sporting character, adding warmth, energy, and passion to the cabin.
Dark Teal and Brunel: A pairing of deep blue-green with cool grey-blue, establishing a calm, modern lounge atmosphere that reveals nuanced depth over time.
Linen and Portland: Soft Linen ivory paired with pale Portland grey forms Bentley’s lightest and most tranquil interior, providing an airy, spacious sanctuary through a gentle mélange of tones.
Newmarket Tan and Saddle: Warm tan set against deep saddle brown creates an inviting, timeless feel that echoes the heritage of fine equestrian leathercraft.
Hand-Cut Crystal in a Digital World
The diamond has been part of Bentley for nearly as long as Bentley has been Bentley. It appeared first as radiator mesh, then in the cross-hatched brass controls of the 1930s, where decoration had a practical purpose: it helped the driver keep hold of things. In the Torcal, the pattern returns in a more sculptural form, most visibly in the jewel-like grille at the front of the car.
Inside, the motif takes on a different form.
For the digital displays, Bentley chose not to begin with a screen. Instead, the design team went to Cumbria Crystal in the English Lake District and had diamond patterns hand-cut into pieces of crystal. They then filmed light moving through the glass—its reflections, distortions and small imperfections—and used those images to build the graphics on the screens.
It is an unusual way to make something digital feel physical. The light on the display has passed through glass before it ever reaches you. For all the technology in the Torcal, the hand behind it is still evident.
Dynamic Poise & Acoustic Mastery
True grand touring demands poise across every surface. The chassis features Bentley Active Ride suspension, deploying individual two-valve hydraulic shock absorbers at each corner to actively neutralize body roll in tight bends. Paired with rear-axle steering that shrinks its turning circle down to 11 metres, the Torcal glides through narrow city passages and sweeping roads with equal ease.
To mirror the emotional cadence of classic motoring, acoustic engineers synthesized an evocative driving soundtrack crafted from genuine studio drum recordings of heritage Bentley V8 engines. Inside, this soundscape fills the sanctuary through an optional 28-speaker, 1,780-Watt Naim system complete with Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 and headrest-integrated speakers.
Aligning Mind, Body, and Motion
The Torcal treats the cabin as something that should adapt to you. Light, sound, temperature, and the screens in front of you shift across four modes, each giving the interior a different character—creating an environment that feels personal, responding to how you want to feel rather than just how fast you want to go.
Bentley Mode: The default balance of comfort, effortless performance, and driver engagement, embodying classic grand touring refinement.
Comfort Mode: Designed to lower cognitive fatigue and encourage deep relaxation. Lighting softens, interior sound calms, and occupants can activate a “digital detox” setting that dims non-essential screen readouts to let focus drift away from digital noise.
Sport Mode: Sharpens the senses for active driving. The engine soundtrack intensifies, visual cues crisp up, and controls respond with heightened immediacy.
Refresh Mode: A new setting dedicated to vitality and physical recovery. The system increases fresh air circulation, brightens ambient lighting, and creates an uplifting atmosphere engineered to combat fatigue and restore alertness on extended journeys.
Designed to Make You Feel Good
Practicality sits alongside this craftsmanship, offering 460 litres of rear luggage capacity plus a hidden 90-litre front trunk. Backed by a £350 million investment in Bentley’s Crewe headquarters, the Torcal marks a new era for Bentley, standing as its most accessible entry into modern luxury at £173,000.
The Torcal is still about power. It is still about distance, and the particular pleasure of covering a great deal of it without feeling the effort. But the experience inside is equally considered; it’s shaped around the person behind the wheel. Calm, focused, restored, or simply comfortable, the cabin is designed to feel personal and, ultimately, to make you feel good.
