We caught up with Aesthetic Medical Doctor Dr Cian McLoughlin to find out more about PICO Rainbow.
How did it all start?
PICO Clinics itself has been long-established in London. We’ve always prided ourselves on providing first-class service to clients irrespective of their gender, sexual orientation or race. Together with the rest of the staff at PICO, Amy (CEO) and I felt we wanted to better communicate this passion and so PICO Rainbow was born! We came up with the idea whilst celebrating pride month and decided we wanted a way to show our pride throughout the whole year. We created a platform aimed at making members of the LGBTQ community feel welcome, safe and heard in an aesthetic medicine environment.
How are PICO Clinics committed to the LGBTQ community in London?
PICO Clinics are committed to advocating for the LGBTQ community in London. We have always been fiercely proud of our LGBTQ clients and allies, creating a comfortable and non-judgemental space for them in the heart of London. Apart from aesthetic medicine, PICO clinics often has social events that bring members of the community together.
What makes PICO Rainbow different?
PICO Rainbow is different in that it has a unique approach to members of the LGBTQ community as they start or continue their aesthetic medicine journey. PICO Rainbow treats everybody with respect and honesty. We tailor our approach and treatments to each individual, allowing them to guide us with their own beauty ideals. PICO Rainbow has highly skilled and educated GMC-registered Doctors delivering these treatments. Combining each person’s individualised aesthetic goals with our first-class clinical knowledge and skill in a relaxed and non-judgemental environment is what sets PICO Rainbow apart.
Tell us about the holistic approach you take to aesthetics from consultation to follow up?
At PICO Rainbow we take a holistic and fully rounded approach to aesthetic medicine. We give a long consultation time to each client, so as not to make them feel rushed. We go through in detail why they are seeking a treatment and what they hope to achieve. Our aim is to guide everybody at PICO Rainbow to achieve the best-looking, most confident and happiest version of themselves. PICO Rainbow does not dictate or imply pre-conceived beauty ideals on people based on gender etc. and instead involves the client every step of the way. Our doctors take their time to explain everything, including after care, and clients are invited to follow up with any questions or pop-in for a review at any time. We want the clients to feel supported throughout the whole process.
What treatments can people have at PICO and why should they come to you?
PICO offers a wide array of treatments to help individuals achieve their beauty and rejuvenation goals. We treat many different areas of the face with dermal fillers including cheeks, lips, nasolabial folds, chin and jawline. We offer anti-wrinkle injections. We also offer body slimming injections (shoulders and calves). For individuals requiring lifting of sagging tissues we have threads procedure in clinic.
PICO also offers CoolSculpting (fat freezing) and solutions to a host of skin problems including fine lines, dryness, acne and scarring through the use of micro-needling, chemical peels and mesotherapy. We also offer bio-rejuvenation injections in the form of Polynucleotides and HArmonyCa, an exciting and expanding area of aesthetic medicine. Lastly, but certainly not least, we offer a pioneering treatment for hair loss called Regenera which uses the person’s own stem cells and growth factors to stimulate hair growth. There are lots of examples and model photos on our Instagram that people can check out.
How do you honour that natural beauty in people?
We pride ourselves in honouring everyone’s natural beauty at PICO clinics. This is primarily done by involving the client in every step along the way. Our doctors explain the treatments that they are proposing and the effect it will have on the person’s appearance. Importantly we also know when to say no at PICO clinics when we feel that somebody is seeking the wrong treatment or would be better served having another intervention, or no intervention at all.
Whilst respecting natural beauty we also listen to our clients. Some clients really want, for example, to have a high projected cheek bone to help feminise their profile. This may not be considered ‘natural’ to some, but if it is what the client sees as beautiful and natural for them then that’s what PICO Rainbow was created for.
What is the future for aesthetic treatments in the UK?
I think the future of aesthetic treatments will be two fold; preventative and bio-rejuvenation. People are seeking aesthetic treatments younger than before. Starting anti-wrinkle injections before the deep 11 lines are there, having some filler before there is serious sagging etc. This approach helps to keep ones natural beauty. I think the days of clients waiting for years and years and then getting a huge amount injected at once will become a lot rarer. A few ‘tweakments’ along the way will become a much more common approach in the industry.
Bio-rejuvenation is also becoming a major buzz word in the industry. These are procedures that stimulate the body’s own collagen, hair follicles etc to maintain a youthful appearance. At PICO Rainbow we offer polynucleotides for under-eye rejuvenation, HArmonyCa for cheek and lower face rejuvenation and Regenera for targeting hair loss. I believe this arm of the aesthetic industry will continue to grow in the future.
What is next for you and PICO Rainbow?
I’m super excited for PICO Rainbow to grow and expand! I will to continue to learn how best to serve this fantastic community in London. Keeping up with the latest trends and breakthroughs in aesthetic medicine and bringing this community together. PICO Rainbow will continue to engage and facilitate meaningful connections with the LGBT community through various social events and campaigns.
