The Rhône Valley isn’t just a destination – it’s a feeling. A region that hums with generational legacy, where hands in the soil craft wines that tell stories, and where gastronomy, nature, and quiet luxury are not just entwined, but inseparable. Set your watch to the rhythm of vineyard time, because Rhône Valley wine doesn’t rush. With a recent trip to the Loire under our belts, it was time to discover the Rhône side.
With @cotesdurhone and @explore.rhonevalley, we traced a rich path from Avignon through serene countryside, feasting, sipping, and staying with winemakers and dreamers who define the French way of living – elevated, effortless, and utterly inviting.
The Côtes du Rhône is home to a wide range of wines from expressive reds and crisp whites to delicate rosés. Pair your wine with local delights like black truffles, creamy goat cheese, and Nyons olives for the ultimate tasting experience.

Domaine des Romarins – The Art of Heritage
Fifth-generation brothers lead @domainedesromarins, where their great-great-grandfather began selling wine in the early 1900s. They’ve never changed their blend, and that defiance of trend in favour of tradition, is its own kind of luxury.
But they make space for art. Every year, a new artist creates the label—a visual soul to match the vintage. Their white, Des Romarins, blends two grapes and seems to bottle the very essence of the southern sun: mineral-laced, light, the kind of wine that brightens both food and conversation.
We tasted it with fougasse, a local tradition. Soft bread wrapped in crisp pastry, filled with pork. It’s how you welcome people here.
You can tour the vineyards in a classic Mehari, open-air and sun-warmed, with the scent of rosemary drifting from the hills.

Château des Coccinelles: Play With the Blend
At @chateaudescoccinelles30390, we were invited into the winemaking process through their “Blending Battle.” You first taste and score four existing blends, then craft your own using the same varieties. The result? A glass that tastes like you.
Once your blend is perfected, you’re invited to guess your creation in a blind tasting, a fun, humbling reminder of wine’s complexity. Their philosophy is encapsulated in the “20:20 Rule”: put reds in the fridge 20 minutes before serving, and take whites out 20 minutes before. Balance – always.

Avignon’s Historic Heart & Dinner with a View
A guided tour through Avignon’s old town (@avignontourisme) is a must. Stand beneath the towering walls of the Palais des Papes, once the seat of Western Christianity, and let history breathe around you.
Opposite the palace is Le Carré du Palais, where you dine on dishes that channel the terroir of the Rhône. Think tender duck breast with cherry glaze, confit shallots and a whisper of lavender…elegance on a plate.
You can also step back in time as you explore four UNESCO World Heritage sites, from the majestic Palais des Papes in Avignon, a 14th-century Gothic palace that once served as the residence of popes, to the Pont du Gard, an ancient Roman aqueduct that stands as a marvel of engineering. Want something even older? The Grotte Chauvet 2 cave in Ardèche, an accurate replica of the original Chauvet Caves, showcases prehistoric art that’s over 30,000 years old! And if you’re chasing that perfect photo, the stunning wine-producing villages of Séguret, Aiguèze, and La Roque-sur-Cèze are picture-perfect and truly capture the heart of this region.

Les Escapades de Signargues – A Village-Wide Soirée
In July, don’t miss Les Escapades de Signargues, an extraordinary Friday tradition. Each village in the area hosts its evening of music, food, and wine. You walk from venue to venue: apéritif in one spot, main course in another, cheese in a church courtyard, dessert under the stars. Community wrapped in cuisine.

Domaine des Favards – Where Camping Meets Cult Wine
@domainedesfavards is no ordinary campsite. Born from a family’s passion for wine and hospitality, it’s a 25-acre organic estate with views, charm, and soul.
The daughter runs the wine; the sister, the camping site. Once just 25 spots – now 100, and fully booked through the summer. You can stay in luxury mobile homes, your campervan, or charming wooden barrels (€72/night). It’s family and dog friendly, and extremely peaceful.
Every Tuesday from June to September, they host a producer’s market in the garden: cheeses, oils, vegetables, honey, and wine tasting with local artisans. There’s a pool, BBQs, and a path through the vines with English signage to guide the curious.
Their wines are whimsical: each label features a circus trick, a nod to the “circus of flavours” inside every bottle. This isn’t just a stay. It’s a story to live.

Domaine La Ferme Saint-Martin – Elevation in Every Sense
@fermesaintmartin offers perhaps the best view in the region – at 450m above sea level, it’s one of the highest vineyards in the Rhône. Wines here have lower alcohol (around 12%), making them ideal for refined daytime sipping.
Come for the view, stay for their hypnotic experiences – literally. Try wine tasting under hypnosis, or join a women’s sharing circle, a blending workshop, or a vineyard massage. With picnic baskets and blind tastings, this is sensorial immersion at its most elegant.

Domaine de Rocheville: Legacy and Olives
Fifth-generation vintners at @domainerocheville also care for olive trees aged between 100 and 200 years. Their wines are delicious, but the BBQs overlooking the valley at their serene camping area make it unforgettable. A quiet celebration of French rural living.

Rousset-les-Vignes – Lights Among the Leaves
This organic vineyard, revived by new owners in 2020, hosts Domaine de la Bouvaude, a breathtaking nocturnal light show every summer. As evening falls, a 2km path through the vines comes alive with lights and sound, accompanied by an audio guide. Wine tastings and dry apéritifs follow under the stars.
Their app, @myviny, allows you to create your wine. From choosing a plot to selecting the blend, all while joining a digital community of winemakers. It’s a modern, soulful spin on ancient craft.

Château Saint-Nabor – A 5-Star Wine Estate
At @masdetoulair / @chateausaintnabor, wine is not just produced, it’s performed. Two brothers oversee 450 acres and one million bottles annually – a 5-star estate where you don’t just drink the lifestyle, you live it.
Take a horse ride through the vineyards, canoe the nearby river, or learn to cook with a private chef. Attend seminars, taste wine, or simply let the setting do its quiet magic. This is the full immersive French experience: elegant, active, alive.

LePlan-Vermeersch: From Formula One to Fine Wine
At @leplanvermeersch, winemaking is daring. Founded by a Belgian former race car driver and his daughter, it’s rooted in speed and soul. They host a summer rock festival (mid-June to early July). Music, wine, and dancing among the vines.
As Ann Vermeersch puts it: “There’s a Rhône for every occasion.” Here, diversity in winemaking means wines that are bold, fresh, and inviting, without the snobbery.

Domaine de Panéry – Chic, Gourmet, and Wild
@domainedepanery is your next obsession. A vast estate that’s home to France’s largest producer of organic extra virgin olive oil, but that’s just the start.
Picture this: a festival under the stars with live DJs like Lily Palmer, a gourmet brunch on Sunday, or wellness retreats among deer and wild boar in their game reserve. Modern, rural, magnetic.
The cellar is focused purely on wine, but around the estate are galleries for art exhibitions, spaces for seminars, and a stunning restaurant serving creative, local cuisine. Rooms open out onto the vines and olive groves – silent, golden, perfect.

Domaine de Cousignac: Music in the Wine
@domainedecousignac is run by a scientist-chef and his wife, a flight attendant and author. He created a rosé wine for one of her book characters, and that’s just the beginning.
They keep wild fields between vines for biodiversity. Nature sounds are played into the fermentation tanks. During Le Chord en Ballad (a local classical music festival known as Les Cordes en Ballade), they pair grapes with instruments. Why Syrah and cello? Because Syrah has depth, richness, and resonance, like a cello’s low, velvety tones.
Their wines come with QR codes linking to original compositions, and each bottle is both a tasting and a listening experience. A sensory duet.

Grotte Saint Marcel – 45 Metres Under the Rhône
@grottesaintmarcel is a subterranean wonder. Discovered in 1838, this ancient cave system offers tours in English and French. In one chamber, local winemakers age wine underground and in another, you can attend a tasting where your other senses are muted, and taste and smell become sharpened.
It’s unforgettable. And yes, child- and dog-friendly too.

Domaine Fontaine du Clos: A Land Rover Safari for Wine Nerds
@fontaineduclos offers a Land Rover wine safari like no other. Here, the focus starts with the vine – the actual biology of the plant, the soil, the varietals. If you’re someone who loves to know why wine tastes the way it does, this is for you. Nerdy, yes. But deliciously so.

Domaine de l’Odylée – A Home Among the Vines
@domainedelodylee is a dreamlike estate where guesthouses are carved from old winemaking structures – one was a former silk mill, the other a wine factory that still features original elements. Odile Couvert, the host, is warmth personified.
Expect exquisite hosting, home-cooked food, and unforgettable local EMKI POP sorbets: from chocolate and salted caramel to lemon-cucumber-mint. The pool looks out onto vineyards. The silence is addictive. Stay once, return always.
Whether you’re sipping beneath a canopy of stars or pressing grapes beneath the Provençal sun, the Rhône Valley seduces with something deeper than luxury — a lifestyle you feel in the glass, and remember long after it’s empty.

Overall
Gone are the days of stuffy wine tastings. Wineries here are shaking things up with hands-on experiences—think blending your own wine, themed tastings, and even staying overnight in vineyard accommodations. Whether you’re a wine newbie or a seasoned connoisseur, there’s a unique experience waiting.
