“It’s Yachting, Not Cruising.”
This really was the dreamiest of dreamy weeks. I understand why people avoid larger ships. This week aboard SeaDream in France and Italy felt like a week of utter luxury with the most homely feel we have experienced at sea. Over half of the other passengers were RETURNING, including a couple who had amassed 1,170 days – that says so much about SeaDream. We spoke to so many who just keep returning, and we understand why. The staff are so warm, welcoming, and have extraordinary attention to detail, leaving us with the feeling that we were coming home. Also, because of the boutique size of the ship, it can go where other vessels cannot at times, so we visited some really interesting ports, including Cannes for the film festival and the gorgeous Menton.
SeaDream Yacht Club is a family-owned yachting company led by founder, owner, and chairman Atle Brynestad, who launched Seabourn Cruise Line in 1987. Since its 2001 debut with the twin mega-yachts SeaDream I and II, the line has consistently earned top industry honours. Embracing the motto “It’s Yachting, Not Cruising,” SeaDream offers a relaxed, yacht-style atmosphere that exceeds expectations while exploring some of the world’s most captivating destinations.
Both shoreside and shipboard teams take pride in delivering exceptional luxury and highly personalised service. Guests are free to set their own pace—whether dining al fresco, lounging poolside, enjoying spa treatments, sleeping under the stars, or biking ashore—knowing they would enjoy one of the finest vacation experiences at sea. All staterooms feature ocean views, and the all-inclusive fare covers every aspect of the journey. This is effortless luxury. Itineraries are crafted to access intimate ports and yachting enclaves that larger ships cannot reach. From May to October, SeaDream I and II explore the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, and Northern Europe; from November to April, they sail the Caribbean’s turquoise waters. Many voyages feature overnight stays in premier ports, allowing you to fully savour each destination’s unique allure.

SeaDream
SeaDream I and SeaDream II—twin mega-yachts heralded as ForbesLife’s “Best Small Luxury Cruise Ship of 2015”—offer a boutique cruising experience defined by intimacy. Carrying just 112 guests served by 95 crew members, these vessels redefine “yachting” as a distinctive lifestyle. Each of the 56 ocean-view staterooms and suites reflects chic, understated elegance, while inclusive amenities—such as an open bar, gratuities, and attentive service—ensure every passenger enjoys the ambience of a private yacht. Renowned for their informally sophisticated atmosphere, sumptuous accommodation, and world-class cuisine, SeaDream’s yachts continue to set the standard for upscale small-ship cruising.

The Cabin
From the moment I stepped into the Stateroom, located mid-ship on Deck 2, I knew I was in for something special. This sanctuary strikes a seamless balance between comfort and luxury. The layout is thoughtfully designed, beginning with a beautifully appointed master bedroom featuring a permanent queen-size bed dressed in crisp Belgian linens and a large flat-screen TV. The master bathroom is spacious and features a proper power shower.
The attention to detail is evident in every corner, from the coffee machine and well-stocked mini-bar to the climate control system and the softest robes and slippers at sea.

Service is intuitive and discreet, with a 24-hour in-room menu for late-night cravings. And yes, Wi-Fi is available—though the view from the cabin is more captivating than any screen.

Other cabins include:
Owner’s Suite
The pinnacle of luxury, the Owner’s Suite offers 447 square feet of thoughtfully designed living space. A separate master bedroom featuring a queen-size bed and flat-screen TV, while the expansive master bathroom includes a hydro-massage shower and soaking tub with sweeping sea views. A spacious living room, complete with a writing desk, guest bath, and dining area, creates a private retreat close to the pool on Deck 3.
Admiral Suite
Combining sophisticated design with breathtaking views, the Admiral Suite spans 375 square feet, highlighted by three picture windows. You can enjoy a private master bedroom with a queen-size bed, marble-lined bathroom with a multi-jet shower and soaking tub, and a partitioned living and dining area. Located near the Library, the Admiral Suite is a balance of luxury and privacy.
Commodore Suite
Ideal for those seeking extra space, the Commodore Suite combines two Yacht Club Staterooms into a spacious 390-square-foot ocean view residence. Featuring two marble-lined baths, a choice of twin or queen beds, and an elegant seating area with sofa and cocktail table, these suites provide exceptional flexibility and comfort.

On-board fun
Life aboard SeaDream is a seamless blend of relaxation, great food, and adventure. At the Top of the Yacht Bar, the day begins with Early Risers Coffee and ends with fine cigars and cognac under the stars, all with panoramic ocean views.

Just steps below, the Topside Restaurant offers an open-air setting for leisurely breakfasts and sophisticated dining, ensuring not a moment of the destination is missed. You can sit inside or outside.
Adventure seekers will find their haven at the Water Sports Marina Platform, fully equipped for aquatic activities that even include jet skiing, while the Pool Deck and saltwater Jacuzzi provide ideal spaces for lounging with cocktails prepared by the award-winning crew. Find the activities manager, Gareth, and let him know what you would like to try. A noteworthy activity was the SeaDream slide, which was installed during our stay. Sliding off a yacht into the Mediterranean – ticked off the list!
Evenings come alive in the Main Salon with live entertainment, in the Casino for a game of Blackjack, or in the Piano Bar for music and cocktails. The onboard boutique, library, and golf Simulator offer refined diversions, while the Fitness Centre ensures wellness is always within reach. We loved the pre-dinner drinks every night. A great touch is the canapés menu changing every night – the caviar night was a favourite!
SeaDream captures the spirit of a private yacht, where every detail is designed for effortless luxury and lasting memories.
Sleeping under the stars
You have the unique opportunity to spend the night on the open deck, weather permitting. Space is limited—particularly on the spacious front bed—so if you are keen to participate, inform the team as soon as possible.
On board SeaDream, nights take on a magical quality with the iconic Balinese Dream Beds. These signature outdoor beds are transformed after dark into sumptuous sanctuaries, inviting you to drift off into sleep beneath a blanket of stars. Wrapped in plush Belgian linens, we basked in the serenity of the open sea, lulled by the gentle sound of the waves and the caress of the night breeze. With the star-studded sky above and the soothing ambience, this enchanting experience promises memories that linger long after the voyage ends.

Nestled within SeaDream’s intimate yachts is a haven of tranquillity, where it should be noted that the SeaDream Spa, the only Thai-certified spa at sea. Here, I was invited to surrender to bliss with a curated selection of treatments, including luxurious Sisley® facials, detoxifying therapies, soothing aroma massages, and traditional Thai massages.
The full-service salon, featuring top-tier brands such as MOROCCANOIL®, HARNN®, Wella®, and Essie®, ensures that you always look and feel your best. A Culinary Journey Aboard SeaDream
Dining on SeaDream Yacht Club is a true voyage for the senses, where world-class chefs and sommeliers craft each meal with meticulous attention to detail.
Breakfast is a wonderful affair – A continental buffet and a la carte dishes. The Benedicts are a must-try, as well as the corn beef hash. On board, we had Chef Shimray hailing from India. He made me a gorgeous Masala tea every morning.

On some days, we didn’t even leave the boat as we knew lunch was always delicious. Health-conscious gourmands are delighted with SeaDream’s innovative Raw and Living Food menu, a pioneering concept at sea created in collaboration with the Hippocrates Health Institute. This menu features gourmet dishes where every ingredient is raw, organic, and vegan, ensuring nutrient integrity by maintaining a temperature below 118°F. I savoured vibrant creations such as Asian-style Cashew Curry Salad, Vegetable Lasagna, and the decadent Raw Avocado Key Lime Pie—each dish a celebration of flavour and vitality. My favourite section at lunch was the “Healthy Corner,” with a make-your-own salad bar with some super dressings.

SeaDream’s Signature Dining in the evening is a highlight not to be missed. We enjoyed gourmet five-star cuisine, prepared à la minute and served either alfresco at the Topside Restaurant or within the refined setting of the Dining Salon. Menus feature luxurious selections such as succulent lobster, filet mignon, and the exquisite L’Oeuf Poule Au Caviar “Surprise,” alongside desserts like rich chocolate soufflé. For added flexibility, an “Always Available” menu ensures that favourite classics are accessible at any time.

Wine, Spirits, and Sophistication
Elevating the culinary experience even further, SeaDream offers an inclusive selection of fine wines and premium spirits. Carefully curated pairings enhance each gourmet meal, while open bars throughout the yacht ensure that your favourite drink is always within reach. Enjoy cocktails with panoramic views at the Top of the Yacht Bar, relax by the Pool Bar during the day, or sip nightcaps at the lively Main Salon, Piano Bar, or Casino.
The selection of drinks was vast, and Champagne was very much included. Cocktails are available anytime, and the selection of spirits is premium. From gin to top-shelf whiskies and a large selection of mocktails, the bar experience was superb. From the fussiest of martini drinkers (like our editor Mark) to wine experts, there is something for everyone. The included wines are varied and interesting. There is also a well-thought-out wine list at competitive prices for more choice.

OUR JOURNEY
This dreamy itinerary offers a luxurious exploration of the French and Italian Rivieras, with stops in some of the most glamorous coastal towns. I had the pleasure of visiting the following destinations:

Nice, France: We started the journey in this charming city, famous for its seaside promenade and vibrant old town.
Things to do: It’s impossible to visit Nice without trying socca — and I’m so glad I did. Among all the local specialities I tasted, from courgette flower fritters to chard tart, it was the socca that truly captured the spirit of the city. This golden, crispy chickpea flatbread is a street food staple and a must-try in Old Nice or the Port District. I had mine hot from the oven, served simply on paper, and the best way to enjoy it? With your fingers, of course. Whether as an aperitif or a satisfying snack while wandering the vibrant streets, socca is the essence of Niçoise tradition.
Excursions: You can join a small-group tour from Nice to Monte Carlo, Monaco, and the medieval village of Eze—and it was an unforgettable experience. Travelling in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle made the journey incredibly smooth and stress-free, especially without the hassle of renting a car. The intimate group size meant we received lots of attention from our knowledgeable guide, who shared fascinating insights along the way. In Monte Carlo, I explored the iconic Place du Casino and even saw parts of the famous Formula 1 circuit, which was a thrill as the grand prix was later that week. It was the ideal way to take in the highlights of the French Riviera in one day.

St. Tropez, France: Iconic for its chic beach clubs, luxury boutiques, and legendary nightlife.
Things to do: enjoy the many beach clubs the small town has to offer, including Club 55, Bagatelle, and Indie Beach. I recommend Club 55, an iconic beach club. Later in the evening, I explored the town, then headed back to the cruise for an early dinner.
Excursions: While in St. Tropez, I decided to go e-cycling. This offered a scenic and active way to explore the iconic French Riviera during summer. The guided tour begins at the pier with gear and safety instructions, followed by a ride through the charming village, countryside vineyards, and fragrant pine forests. A relaxing stop at a beach club allows time to swim, unwind, and enjoy refreshments before cycling back to the yacht.
As a wine enthusiast, this tour from St Tropez was nothing short of a dream. We began our journey with a scenic drive through the stunning Côtes de Provence region, where the vineyards stretched endlessly across the rolling countryside. Our destination was the historic Château St Martin in Taradeau—a breathtaking estate that has belonged to the same aristocratic family since 1740 and boasts roots dating back to Roman times.
The wine tasting experience there was exceptional. We sampled a selection of their renowned wines, each accompanied by perfectly paired snacks, all while soaking in views of the expansive 100-hectare “Cru Classé” domain. The atmosphere was serene and elegant, with the centuries-old heritage of the château adding a rich depth to the entire experience.

Cannes, France: Glamorous and historic, known for its international film festival and stunning promenade, La Croisette.
Things to do: Cannes is popular for crafting perfumes, and so I took a one-hour perfume workshop to honour their legacy. I also woke up just in time to visit the morning market (Marche Provencal) and to explore the old town. It was also the Cannes Film Festival, so there was an amazing atmosphere all around.
Excursions: I had the privilege of visiting Chateau d’Esclans, the iconic home of Whispering Angel rosé. Starting in Cannes, our Wine Yachting Land Adventure led us deep into the tranquil countryside to this historic estate, where centuries-old tradition meets world-class innovation.
The tour through the vineyards revealed the care behind every bottle: old-vine Grenache and Vermentino grapes, hand-picked at dawn, are transformed into elegant, expressive wines. Tasting the estate’s top cuvées—some aged in oak—offered a glimpse into the depth and ageing potential of premium rosé.
Whispering Angel, now exported around the world, lives up to its reputation: dry, aromatic, and incredibly versatile. With 95% of production reaching international markets, Chateau d’Esclans has led a “rosé renaissance,” elevating the category through bold vision and craftsmanship.

Portofino, Italy: A picturesque Italian fishing village with colourful harborside homes and refined, romantic charm.
Things to do: In Portofino, I decided to check out the beach at Bagni Fiore and explore Cinque Terre. Afterwards, I visited the San Fruttuoso Abbey, a majestic building that should not be missed out on!
Excursions: I had the unforgettable chance to explore Monterosso, one of the picturesque villages of Cinque Terre. The day began with a scenic drive from Portofino to Santa Margherita, followed by a coastal journey along cliffs and terraced vineyards that offered breathtaking views.
In Monterosso, we enjoyed a guided walking tour, then had free time to wander through colourful streets and soak up the charm of this Italian Riviera gem. The village’s seaside beauty and romantic atmosphere made it feel like stepping into a postcard.
A highlight of the day was visiting a hillside winery nestled among vineyards, lemon groves, and forest. We tasted three excellent local wines, paired with a delicious lunch of seasonal, regional dishes—all in a stunning, tranquil setting. The entire experience was a mix of culture, cuisine, and scenery. I captured plenty of photos, but none can truly convey the magic of Monterosso and the Cinque Terre. It was an incredible day I’ll always remember.
Portofino is often seen as a glamorous playground for the rich, but my visit revealed much more. After arriving ashore, I took a short, scenic walk to Castle Brown, perched high above the Gulf of Tigullio. The views of the village and the sea were stunning.

Menton, France: A beautiful and quieter town near the Italian border, known for its gardens and relaxed Mediterranean vibe.
Things to do: I walked around the old city for what seemed like 4 hours and tried their famous Limoncello, a sweet, lemon liqueur which is made by infusing lemon zest into a spirit and then mixing it with simple syrup. Another amazing thing I did was watch the sunset at Vieux Port de Menton.
Excursions: I joined a private walking tour of Menton, known as the “Pearl of France” and famed for its citrus heritage. We began at the pier, passed the lighthouse, and wandered into the historic old town with its winding alleys and colourful hillside homes.
At the bustling local market, friendly vendors shared the scents and flavours of the South. We visited a lemon-themed shop where I sampled local treats—Limoncello, lemon tapenade, jams, and more—and learned about the famous “Fête du Citron,” a vibrant festival held every February.
Our final stop was a small jam factory, where I tasted freshly made lemon jam and heard the story behind this artisanal tradition. We ended the day with a leisurely walk along the Promenade du Soleil, soaking in the sea views—an ideal close to a day full of discovery.
Throughout the voyage, expect plenty of opportunities for water sports, exclusive land adventures, and fine dining experiences crafted to match the spirit of the Riviera lifestyle.

SeaDream Yacht Club has also been awarded a prestigious four-star rating by Forbes Travel Guide for its dining experience aboard SeaDream II, placing it among the top five sea-based restaurants globally in 2025, and one of only three to earn four stars.
