Where does one spend an evening in the city that never sleeps and with seemingly endless options? When visiting NYC, it’s easy for decision fatigue to set in as you search for the suitable choice that has the perfect balance of atmosphere, great food, above-average drinks and personality to match. 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge offers unparalleled views of the Manhattan skyline paired with serene interiors and plush greenery that evokes a memory of our very own Barbican conservatory.
Picturesque Skyline Views
Graced by the likes of wellness maven Gwyneth Paltrow, the considerably-designed property boasts an ‘all natural’ design featuring notable touches including specially formulated products from Bamford that make trips to the restroom that bit more exciting.
The first stop of the evening begins at Harriet’s Lounge, ideally located on the building’s 10th floor with picturesque views of the Brooklyn Bridge. After days of traveling between the city’s various boroughs and becoming acclimatized to the vastness that is New York City, there is a certain tranquillity that comes with sitting within what feels like spitting distance from one of the destination’s great landmarks.
Exquisite Bar Tastes
The bar offers a selection of aptly named sustainable cocktails including Purple Haze, Chill Pill, The Green House and Zero Waste Daiquiri as well as stylish renditions of beloved classics including Harriet’s Margarita (which features a surprise ingredient), Coconut Spritz and The Watchtower (for all the Paloma lovers).
The lounge is designed in such a manner that your experience is heavily weighted upon where you sit. On a high stool by the bar, you have a front seat for the theatrics of charismatic bar staff who dazzle and entertain whilst reeling off an impressive history of their top-shelf liquors. In a corner booth, you have a perfect view for people-watching and having that long-awaited catch-up with family and old friends that you’ve been meaning to reconnect with for quite some time. But when seated by the window…let’s just say if you’re planning a grand romantic gesture, you’re in the right place and the team at Harriet’s is skilled at assessing and enhancing whatever mood you’re going for.
1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge Dining Experience
The perfect evening in NYC isn’t complete without a dinner that you’ll go on to rave about for months after. We travel down to The Osprey, an offering of luxurious farm-to-table cuisine and lively surroundings, showcasing the true versatility that the city has to offer. With towering skyscrapers, bustling streets and attractions on each corner it can be easy to forget that there is an often unseen side to the state of New York that is simpler, quieter and more importantly, centred around the outdoors.
Days before our dining experience, we had the pleasure of spending a day in The Hamptons, often characterised by lengthy stretches of coastlines, farmlands, scenic villages and towns which house a warm down-to-earth disposition with an aspirational affluence further amplified by Hayu’s finest real-estate reality shows.
Sustainable Luxury Dining
The Osprey captures this essence by providing an elevated experience that feels comfortable and attainable. The true luxury lies within the details of their menu and the ability to take simple and comforting dishes and transform them. This is evident in their offering which features star dishes of ‘Osprey Pull Apart Roll’ laden with cultured seaweed butter; Crispy Brussels Sprouts with miso and scallions; Roasted Beet Salad with blood orange and black olive crumble; coconut-braised Bison Short Rib and Honeynut Squash Cavatelli. Dessert follows suit as the night ends with decadence in the form of Mocha Crème Brûlée and a rendition of Sticky Toffee Pudding with chai ice cream and brown butter caramel.
Their formulaic approach becomes clearer as the meal progresses and the flavours grow more complex: take simple and comforting foods and use star ingredients to bring their flavours to the surface and reimagine how guests see those foods. The Osprey is successful in their mission but in the process achieves a far greater one – bringing the focus back to simpler and mindful dining in a city where you can have anything you want.
