One year after the UK-Australia Free Trade Agreement, Chef Roy Ner and Aussie Beef & Lamb celebrated their milestones at Jeru Restaurant in Mayfair London with top experts from Australia’s red meat industry. Specialising in Mediterranean food, Chef Ner hosted an intimate dinner at Jeru, expertly curating a selection of dishes made from Aussie Beef & Lamb’s finest produce. Among the dishes were Slow Cooked Lamb, Chocolate Aged Tomahawk, and Chocolate Aged Full Blood Sirloin. Prepared over a traditional charcoal grill, Jeru’s menu combines tradition with innovation, using generational Mediterranean recipes and techniques, modernised with seasonality.

Jeru’s Meat Selection from Aussie Beef & Lamb
Having spent 18 years in Australia, Chef Ner enjoyed diverse cuisines and cultures, growing to become a BBQ expert given the country’s exceptional meat. As a firm believer in the consistency, superior eating quality, as well as the sustainability of Australian red meat, Chef Ner became an official ambassador for Aussie Beef & Lamb – known for employing some of the world’s strictest rules around animal safety and food welfare. After moving to the UK and following the trade agreement, he started using more of the meats in his menu at Jeru.
Jeru’s meat selection includes prestige cuts and high-end products like award-winning Wagyu and premium grain-fed beef. With that said, their dishes are prepared through different techniques such as slow cooking, grilling, and their speciality from the dry ager: chocolate-fed and chocolate-aged beef, enhancing tenderness and flavour.

Celebrating Milestones
The celebration at Jeru brought together leading professionals from the Australian red meat industry, sharing milestones following the trade agreement’s one-year anniversary. Stephen Edwards, Business Manager at Meat & Livestock Australia, said the country’s beef and lamb continue to impress the UK food service industry. In particular, beef imports rose to over 4,144 tonnes, while those of sheep soared to over 16,000 tonnes. Grain-fed beef is growing in popularity among UK consumers who value marbled beef with excellent taste and tenderness, such as brisket, silverside, and topside.
Sustainability and Provenance at Aussie Beef & Lamb
Not only does Aussie Beef & Lamb stand out for its premium quality meat, but also for their sustainability and animal welfare practices. Across beef and sheep meat production in Australia, net carbon production fell by 78% since 2005. Additionally, Australian beef producers have reduced their water usage by 78% since 1985, with 58% of them now using renewable energy on their farms. Aussie Beef & Lamb opts for boat transportation, which has a lower carbon footprint compared to air freight. Their top-notch hygiene practices give the meats long shelf lives and help with their ageing process, contributing to enhanced tenderness as they reach their designated destinations. All of these efforts are driving Australia towards its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030. As for animal welfare, both the UK and Australia share the same humane practices, allowing cattle and sheep to spend their entire lives roaming freely on vast landscapes.
Approximately 80% of registered Australian red meat exporters have products that are Halal certified. The availability of Halal-certified Australian Beef and Lamb in the UK represents more than just a dietary option. It proves a commitment to diversity, ethical practices, sustainability, and culinary excellence. Being Halal certified means adhering to rigorous standards from farm to fork. The Halal certification process in Australia is captured in legislation. It encompasses every stage, starting from the rearing of livestock through processing and distribution.
