A new taquería is opening its doors in London. Tacos upstairs. Cocktails downstairs. And a little fun in between.
The space brings together a vibrant restaurant and taquería with a disco hidden beneath, and somewhere on those stairs between the two, a party of its own is probably already happening. Who knows? Because really, who doesn’t love a party? Now, from top to bottom, you can find it all under the same roof.
Welcome to La Familia, the brand-new opening on Poland Street, where the much-loved Barrio Soho has evolved into something so unmistakably Soho. The street itself hums with the rhythm of London’s food scene; the clatter of plates, the low glow of signs flickering, the easy mix of noises surrounding you. By night, La Familia takes that pulse and turns it up; tacos, cocktails, and the kind of chaos that feels beautifully inevitable here.
There’s something about Soho that makes reinvention feel natural. It’s a neighbourhood that never really sits still – one moment, it’s nostalgia; the next, it’s all about what’s coming next. La Familia captures that spirit: familiar yet new, playful yet refined, a place that’s brimming with energy.

Upstairs: The Taquería
Upstairs is the Taquería; fast, fun and full of flavour. Here, everything is made with the energy of a Mexico City street corner, brought to life in London’s heart. The menu celebrates the art of simple food done well: authentic tacos, quesadillas, chips and guac, and Mexican street drinks like Jarritos, Agua de Jamaica, and laid-back Margaritas. Each dish arrives bursting with colour, freshness and that distinct balance of spice, citrus and warmth that makes Mexican cooking so addictive.
A few personal must-tries? Start with birria and al pastor tacos— if you’re a beef lover, go for the birria with cheese; it never disappoints. If you’re after something bold, the al pastor is the one, and yes, always with pineapple. Don’t skip the Oaxacan cheese quesadillas either; Oaxacan cheese might just be one of the world’s best-kept secrets—irresistibly melty and pulling beautifully with every bite—comfort food, but better dressed. And for the ultimate Mexican side, order elote with cotija cheese: sweet corn roasted until smoky, brushed with mayo and lime, and covered with cotija, that crumbly, salty cheese that makes everything it touches simply better.

Downstairs: The Discoteca
Now, venture downstairs, where the secret lives. The Speakeasy is a Latin-inspired cocktail bar that feels like a secret you’ve just been let in on. Here, the lights dim, the tempo shifts, and the air turns heavy with the scent of lime, mezcal, and music. It’s an underground world of polished chaos: disco-ball reflections dancing across the walls, and the best Latin disco and hip-hop DJs in town setting the rhythm.
The drinks are a story of their own. Expect elevated twists on Barrio favourites, balancing Latin flair with London sophistication. An Agua de Jamaica, hibiscus tea served chilled and ruby red, that keeps you refreshed through it all. Or for a taste of nostalgia, there’s always Mexican Coke or Jarritos, those fizzy, fruit-flavoured classics that somehow taste like summer no matter the season. Now, if it’s time to move from sipping to dancing, order a Corona or a fresh lime margarita, and let the beat pull you in. Down here, time loses its meaning, just as it should on a proper Soho night out.
There is a bespoke cocktail list with some really interesting creations like a corn-inspired cocktail and proper mescal margaritas. Another fun thing to do is the tequila tasting flight and a well-made Michelada.

The Space
With interiors inspired by Mexican Modernism, La Familia blends raw plaster and bold colour with a splash of neon energy. The design nods to both Mexico’s architectural legacy and London’s late-night charm; minimal yet textured, grounded yet glowing. It feels alive, made for conversation and laughter, for stories that start with “we only meant to stay for one.”
Every detail serves a purpose: the warm light, the rhythm of the playlist, the subtle scent of lime and chilli hanging in the air. La Familia doesn’t just serve food and drinks; it serves a feeling. The kind that lingers after you’ve left, the kind you look forward to coming back to. So whether you’re dropping in for a quick taco fix or settling in for a night that might stretch a little longer than planned, La Familia has you covered. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel part of the city again; chaotic, charming, and just the right amount of unpredictable. It’s London’s latest must-try for tacos, cocktails and a little bit of beautiful chaos.
