Mamma Mia! The Party has arrived in London to much excitement as it is a unique concept that puts you in the heart of the action. We let it all go for a few hours with a spectacular show, four-course Mediterranean feast and to finish, an ABBA disco.
Getting there – Travel to The O2 in style with MBNA Thames Clippers. We took a River Bus from central London to North Greenwich to get into the party spirit. A Thames Clippers Party Express has a dedicated fast service running on Friday and Saturday evenings from 22 November AND it includes a glass of champagne.
Make a day of it and begin your Abba experience by visiting ABBA: Super Troupers The Exhibition in a 14,000 square foot space conveniently also at The O2 from 6 December 2019. This is no traditional exhibition but a unique take on ABBA’s story that transports you to the heart of the journey of each band member from Björn’s school report through to a limited-edition replica of the ‘Star Guitar’ played at Eurovision ’74, signed by all four super troupers. Allow a couple of hours for this interactive exhibition which includes lyrics, costumes, instruments, experiential backdrops, behind the scenes exclusives and much much more. Tickets are on sale now.
Created by ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus, Mamma Mia! The Party has also been specially adapted for the UK by writer, comedian and broadcaster Sandi Toksvig. Without giving too much away, this new immersive entertainment experience happens in a specially adapted venue at The O2 which is set up as a 500 seat traditional Greek taverna on the island of Skopelos, where the first MAMMA MIA! film was shot.
Told through iconic ABBA songs sung by an all professional cast with plenty of musical theatre pedigree, the story evolves and unfolds during the evening, taking place around you during dinner. The experience begins the second you enter those famous blue taverna doors, sitting around tables in the courtyard with a fountain, olive trees and more.
What’s for dinner? Well, first of all dinner is put on by legendary private caterer rhubarb, part of the London hospitality industry elite. Starting with a welcome cocktail (included in the price), we sampled a mezze selection of bread, olives, homous and more.
Our favourite starter was a well made traditional Greek Salad. For main course, a generous lamb kleftiko came with a selection of sides. Save space for the orange cake at the end. There is also a bar serving a selection of wines and champagne at an additional cost.
Going as a couple was fun but this is the kind of party you want to take all your friends to in proper Greek style as the party atmosphere builds throughout the night. If your ideal night out is an restaurant, theatre and night club with the convenience of everything under one roof and the mesmerising music of ABBA, then this is an ideal night out.
