Din Tai Fung’s much anticipated third London restaurant, located in the heart of Centre Point, is now open. The popular Michelin Guide recognised Taiwanese restaurant, famous for its iconic Xiao Long Bao (steaming hot soup dumplings) has opened its third London site at Centre Point.
Ranked as one of the world’s Top 10 Best Restaurants by The New York Times, Din Tai Fung has its roots dating back to Taiwan more than 60 years ago. The arrival of Din Tai Fung in the UK in 2018 made waves in the local dining scene; and has since built a huge following. To date, the celebrated Taiwanese restaurant also has branches in Singapore, Thailand, Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, UAE, and USA.
Din Tai Fung Centre Point
The new Din Tai Fung Centre Point is roomy with space for 218 diners, serving the same menu as its sister sites but with the additional offering of a separate bar area. With floor to ceiling windows on both sides, Din Tai Fung Centre Point is a great place to enjoy pre theatre eats and post-work or pre-dinner cocktails.
What about the food?
A must try are the famous Xiao Long Bao, as well as its signature cocktails Din, Tai and Fung. Xiao Long Bao has achieved cult status amongst foodies and the dish works so well due to the balance between the thin wrapper and that rich, porky stock. Each Xiao Long Bao takes 40 minutes of hand preparation. Another must try is the pork chop rice as the pork is crispy yet moist so the dish doesn’t feel dry. The shrimp and pork wonton and a side of green beans are also winners and embody the key ethos here of dim sum done well.
The new restaurant will also serve delicious treats such as the sweet twist on the classic steamed bun, the popular Salted Egg Yolk Custard Lava Bun. Look out for the robots taking plates back to the kitchen!
In a nutshell
Din Tai Fung’s heritage and culinary craftsmanship is at the heart of the brand, with over 60 years serving authentic Taiwanese cuisine. The brand serves over 100 million Xiao Long Bao a year worldwide; however, their cuisine remains largely unchanged from their humble beginnings. Dim sum is prepared by dedicated Dian Xin, dim sum chefs, who ensure that each dish keeps to the high standards. To display this artistry and skill, Centre Point will feature Din Tai Fung’s signature open kitchen, much like its sister restaurants at Selfridges and Covent Garden.
This latest expansion, in such an iconic location, marks a pivotal moment for Din Tai Fung which has gone from strength to strength in recent years, demonstrating the brand’s ongoing popularity and firmly cementing its position as a cult favourite.
