From premium Nikka whiskies and bespoke highballs to live sumo wrestling and authentic Japanese dining, Tokyo Nights is one of the most immersive and fun cultural experiences in London. This summer, Londoners will have the opportunity to experience the energy, flavours and traditions of Japan without leaving the city as Tokyo Nights arrives at Borough Hall in Greenwich.
Running through 8 July 2026, the month-long event combines live sumo wrestling, Japanese gastronomy, theatre and interactive entertainment, all inspired by the vibrant streets of Tokyo.
Nikka Whisky Takes Centre Stage
Leading the drinks offering is Nikka Whisky under Speciality Brands, which has been named the exclusive whisky supplier and official sponsor of Tokyo Nights.
The partnership marks the first time Nikka has supported an event of this scale in the UK, bringing one of Japan’s most respected whisky producers to the forefront of an immersive cultural experience. Known for its commitment to craftsmanship and tradition, the brand is a natural fit for an event celebrating authentic Japanese culture.
There is also the opportunity to discover a range of Nikka expressions while learning more about the heritage and expertise behind one of Japan’s most celebrated whisky houses.
Signature Highballs Inspired by Tokyo
A standout feature of the drinks programme will be a selection of bottled whisky highballs available throughout the experience.
Among them is the Ginza Velvet Highball, a refreshing serve created with Nikka Days whisky, coconut, melon and citrus cream soda syrup. Inspired by Tokyo’s famous Ginza district, known for its luxury shopping, nightlife and sophisticated cocktail culture, the drink offers a contemporary take on one of Japan’s most beloved whisky serves.
The highball has become synonymous with modern Japanese drinking culture, making it the perfect accompaniment to an evening dedicated to the country’s food, drink and entertainment traditions.
Exclusive Tastings for VIP Guests
For those seeking a more premium experience, VIP guests will have access to an exclusive Nikka whisky tasting and specially curated cocktail menu.
Featured whiskies include the acclaimed Nikka Whisky From The Barrel and Nikka Taketsuru, both served alongside the dining experience. The tasting element provides an opportunity for enthusiasts and newcomers alike to explore the complexity and craftsmanship that have helped establish Japanese whisky as a global category leader.
The Spirits Club Extends the Experience After Dark
For those looking to delve even deeper into Japanese drinking culture, Tokyo Nights also offers access to The Spirits Club, an exclusive after-hours experience that runs from 8:45 pm until midnight.
Designed as a premium extension of the main event, The Spirits Club blends Japanese whisky, live music, cocktail rituals and traditional games into an intimate late-night setting inspired by Tokyo’s renowned listening bars and jazz kissas. Guests are welcomed into a carefully curated environment where whisky appreciation, entertainment and ritual come together in a uniquely immersive format.
Each guest receives tokens on arrival, which can be used throughout the evening to unlock experiences including cocktail-making sessions, music requests, traditional Cho Han games and exclusive interactions inspired by sumo culture. Alongside the entertainment, visitors are guided through a selection of premium Japanese whiskies paired with flavour-led snacks designed to highlight the spirits’ complexity and character.
The addition of The Spirits Club further strengthens Tokyo Nights’ credentials as one of London’s most ambitious drinks-led cultural experiences, offering whisky enthusiasts a rare opportunity to explore Japanese spirits in a setting that goes far beyond a traditional tasting event.
Live Sumo Wrestling Comes to Greenwich
Beyond the drinks, Tokyo Nights offers a rare opportunity to witness one of Japan’s most iconic sporting traditions.
Each evening will feature specially organised sumo wrestling bouts, bringing the spectacle, discipline and ceremony of the ancient sport to a UK audience. As sumo competitions rarely take place outside Japan, the event presents a unique chance for visitors to experience the sport up close.
The matches form the centrepiece of an immersive theatrical production designed to recreate the atmosphere and excitement of Tokyo’s entertainment districts.
Authentic Japanese Food and Cultural Experiences
Food plays an equally important role in the Tokyo Nights experience, with authentic Japanese cuisine creating a key part of the evening. The food is by Sticks’n’Sushi, so look out for specially created Sticks’n’Sushi bento boxes and Ebi bites.
The event combines gastronomy, performance and interactive experiences to create a multi-sensory journey through contemporary Japanese culture. From the carefully designed setting to the curated food and beverage offerings, every element has been developed to transport visitors to the heart of Tokyo. Whether you are a long-time admirer of Japanese culture or discovering it for the first time, Tokyo Nights brings something very different to London.
