A Mediterranean Oasis in the Heart of Stratford
Tucked discreetly within the rising cultural quarter of Stratford Cross, HERA is quietly redefining what it means to escape the city, without actually leaving it. This summer, the modern Greek restaurant has unveiled a sprawling outdoor terrace, effortlessly marrying island charm with London elegance. It’s more than just a space to dine al fresco. It’s an experience: a curated, sun-drenched escape that beckons you to linger longer, laugh louder, and indulge a little more deeply.

Draped in climbing foliage, with lemons hanging from the pergola and bursts of vibrant florals at every turn, the terrace feels like something out of a dream, or perhaps a long, lazy afternoon on a terrace in Hydra. Soft linen parasols sway in the breeze above rattan furniture and terracotta planters overflowing with Mediterranean greenery. Light filters through the pergola in golden shafts, casting shadows that dance across crisp table linens and gleaming glassware. The design is thoughtful, atmospheric, and entirely transportive, whether you’re here for a laid-back lunch or a candlelit dinner under the stars.
With room for up to 100 seated, and 150 for standing receptions, this isn’t just a seasonal afterthought, it’s the new heart of HERA. From golden hour to nightfall, it hums with energy: part hideaway, part celebration, and entirely unlike anywhere else in East London.

Elevated Greek Cuisine, Served with Soul
As striking as the setting may be, the food is what ultimately grounds HERA’s terrace in authenticity. Rooted in traditional Greek recipes, but elevated with modern techniques and premium ingredients, the menu delivers depth, nuance, and a true sense of place.
Begin your journey with mezze, a ritual of sharing and grazing that feels celebratory in its own right. Dishes arrive as edible works of art: bowls of briny, marinated olives, warm bread with just the right amount of chew, and vibrant dips that tell a tale of sun, soil, and heritage. The Melitzano Salata is smoked to perfection, the Tzatziki impossibly fresh and tangy, while the Tirokafteri offers a creamy, spicy kick that lingers pleasantly on the palate.

And then there’s the Feta Saganaki, golden, crisp, and encased in delicate strands of angel hair pastry, its molten centre offset by a drizzle of fragrant lemon honey. It’s a standout, the kind of dish that sparks conversation and earns a permanent spot in your memory. Equally unforgettable is the Seabass Carpaccio: feather-light, citrusy, and garnished with dill oil, crispy radish, and a subtle nod to Japanese influence in the form of yuzu. It’s Greek, but with its own London twist.
Main courses are hearty and generous, the kind of food that invites second bites and extended conversations. The Grilled Octopus is smoky, tender, and balanced with fava bean purée and zesty pico de gallo. Lamb Chops, delicately charred and fragrant with rosemary, arrive perfectly pink and deeply flavourful. King Prawns are bathed in a rich tomato and rosemary glaze, while the Seafood Pasta, laced with calamari, prawns, clams and a slow-cooked tomato sauce, is nothing short of Mediterranean comfort, redefined.
The £60 set menu delivers superb value and you can still try a lot of the signature dishes to get a feel of the flavours.

Cocktails in Bloom, Reimagined Under the Pergola
As day shifts into early evening, HERA’s terrace takes on a golden, almost cinematic glow, and it’s around this time that the cocktails truly come into their own. The drinks menu is a spirited tribute to Greek ingredients, global technique, and playful storytelling.
The “Helen of Spice” is a bold reimagining of the margarita, bringing heat and complexity that’s balanced beautifully by a bright citrus edge. “Karpouzi Island” is summer in a glass, light, fruity, and visually delightful with its side of jelly watermelon. For something moodier, “Dates in Crete” is a sultry blend of rye whisky, banana, date, and coffee, layered and velvety, best enjoyed slowly as the sky darkens and candles flicker to life.
For those who like to keep things interesting, the weekday Cocktail Hour, from 4pm to 7pm, offers a curated selection of over 20 signature cocktails at just £8. It’s an invitation to explore, sip, and settle into the rhythm of a summer evening.

A Space for Celebration, Connection and Culture
More than a beautiful setting, HERA’s terrace encapsulates a deeper philosophy of togetherness.
Named after the Greek goddess of family and celebration, the space was conceived as a modern temple to connection and conviviality. The team behind HERA, a collective of seasoned hospitality experts and passionate food lovers, envisioned a destination that feels both elevated and deeply welcoming. The terrace brings that vision to life.
From the warm, intuitive service to the ambient playlist drifting through the air, every detail is designed to create moments, the kind that don’t need to be rushed, staged, or filtered. Whether you’re popping in for a pre-show cocktail before catching ABBA Voyage, planning a birthday under the canopy, or simply spending a languid afternoon with friends and rosé, HERA’s terrace offers a setting where London melts away and summer truly begins.
With Everyman Cinema, Sadler’s Wells East, and the highly anticipated V&A East just steps away, HERA’s location at Stratford Cross positions it perfectly at the intersection of food, culture, and design. It’s not just a meal, it’s a moment, a Mediterranean daydream come to life in Stratford.
