Bianco 43 is the brainchild of two passionate Italians, Massimo Parodi and Fabrizio Margarita who have two restaurants in Greenwich and Blackheath.
Bianco 43 is Italian through and through. From the charming staff to the quality ingredients, the atmosphere is positive and it feels like you are eating in someone’s home. This family business has always prided itself on authenticity. “We want to make you feel like you were in Italy during your time spent in our restaurant”, Massimo said. This ethos is embedded throughout even when potential staff send in their CV, they need to send a photo of themselves smiling.
We sat upstairs overlooking Greenwich and started with a spiced Negroni with basil and black pepper, a drink created by manager Saso. This very clever Negroni had a wicked flavour and also looked pretty.
Bianco 43 Greenwich do so much more than pizza. There are salads, snacks and pastas including a bespoke menu available on demand if you have a favourite dish or wine which is not on the menu, they can organise it for you. We decided to put in a special request for a spaghetti carbonara. This dish is so often abused in the UK so we were happy to have a proper carbonara with that creamy taste coming from the eggs and a big hit of pecorino. The tiramisu was everything a tiramisu should be – a creamy, boozy, coffee soaked affair.
All of their ingredients are carefully selected directly from specific regions of Italy. I was wondering where the name came from and Massimo told me, “We gave the restaurant the name Bianco, meaning white in Italian to reflect the clean whitewashed interior to remind guests of a summery Italian city restaurant by the sea side. 43 is the address number of our first restaurant.”
Bianco 43 reopened for dining in with social distancing measures in place including masks, increased space between tables, cleaning of all surfaces, contactless payments as well as increased hygiene measures at the entrance, at the table and throughout the restaurant. Massimo said, “Our goal to make people feel safe in the restaurant. We would like you to enjoy your meal rather than have a quick pizza and go.”

Watching the staff go about their day to day duties is like watching a ballet. Everything is in synergy and that makes you feel comfortable as a guest. Manager Saso said, “Bianco 43’s staff are mostly made up of people that chose to live abroad and we support each other more like siblings than colleagues. When a team is related to each other in this way, is easy being welcoming and friendly to people and creating good vibes during this weird time.” Executive Chef Angelo has been there for 4 years and Stefano the General Manager literally saw Bianco 43 being born and has been there since day one.
Bianco 43’s future is still to provide the best food they can with new ideas in the pipeline for autumn 2020 and beyond. Saso summed it well and said, “As we like saying, where you smell bread call that place home…or Bianco 43.”
