Fitzrovia’s multi-award-winning, luxury lifestyle property, The Mandrake, has opened Jurema Summer Terrace, a sensual oasis of tranquillity in the middle of the city. The space, famed for its luscious hanging garden of suspended passionflower and jasmine, launched with a brand-new summer botanic installation, designed by floral artist Hamish Powell.
The beautifully decorated space is serving up South American-inspired modern European small plates from YOPO restaurant and summer ethnobotanical cocktails. Located on the first-floor terrace, Jurema is framed with stunning foliage and flanked with plush, comfortable seating, boasting an open roof for stargazing and sunbathing. Overlooking the Courtyard’s soaring Tasmanian Ferns, Jurema’s open-air bar is one of a kind in London.

Delicious Plates
Indulge in the space for breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. For breakfast some selections include items from the bakery and fruits, dairy and grains. As well as main dishes like ricotta pancakes, eggs benedict, and a Mandrake Wellbeing breakfast.

For lunch and dinner guests can try a range of small plates and sharing dishes including YOPO’s famous Portland Crab, Gala Apple and Caviar Brioche, as well as Salt Cod Croqueta, Piquillo & Chilli Aioli and Garlic Jamon Iberico & Salted Butter Crispbread. There is an extensive menu of main dishes featuring meat, seafood and vegetable dishes to choose from like Grilled Octopus, Potato & Hot Smoked Paprika, Grilled Prawns, Garlic, Ginger & Ají Amarillo and a Burrata with Sikil Pak & Grilled Green Beans.

Our clear favourite were the Roasted Pork Belly tacos. Imagine the crispiest tastiest pork belly braised in Beer, served with a Pineapple, Caper & Chilli Salsa, Sour Cream, Butter Lettuce (for a no carb option) & Tacos. Utterly delicious. It was great to see George’s creativity throughout the menu especially the Line-caught Yellowfin Tuna with Ají Panca, Chives, Shallot, Red & Green Chilli, Olive Oil, Dark Soy, Cashew Cream & Puffed Buckwheat, served with Blue Corn Tostadas. This tartare has appeared in one form or another for a year or so and we adore it.
You can end the night with strawberry and guava cheesecake, dark chocolate Alfajore with passionfruit and Dulce de leche, or island chocolate royal with mezcal ice-cream.

Cocktails
Jurema’s expert team of mixologists will be shaking up some of the hottest summer cocktails. Options include the Citrine – a fresh and fruity blend of ginger & rosemary-infused Bombay Sapphire Gin, orange liquor, mastic roots liquor & lemon juice. As well as the famous Mangosteen, a blend of mangosteen & hibiscus infused Patrón Silver Tequila with chipotle agave, jalapeño vinegar, grapefruit soda & chilli.

Imaginative Décor
The brand-new vegetal installation is the focal point of the summer terrace, designed by international floral artist Hamish Powell. Jurema has previously won Best Outdoor Space at the Global AHEAD Awards in 2019 and is a standout example of design excellence.
Powell was invited to collaborate by The Mandrake’s Creative Director and lead of the Artist in Residence Series, Maguelone Marcenac. Based in East London, Powell’s work is inspired by botanical science forms met with fashion and art. Choreographing floral creations for galleries, fashion shows and events across the world, Hamish is a man of many talents including a vocation for poetry. The foundation of his work is to radically reawaken the lost connection to nature, which parallels beautifully with Jurema’s deeply spiritual and emotive attitude.

Artist In Residence
To celebrate the launch of the beautiful Jurema Summer Terrace, The Mandrake has enlisted the support of fantastic Flower Studio, Cereus Nights to create an outdoor installation in The Courtyard, building up to the Terrace. The activation aims to explore the space between sculpture and floristry.
The Mandrake has an incredible Artist In Residence programme, where they invite key artists to stay at the hotel and create a bespoke piece of work, which then takes pride of place in the hotel.
