To continue our series of non surgical beauty treatments, I have always wanted to experience a laser treatment. This original micropen facial (developed by Dr. Yannis Alexandrides, plastic surgeon & founder of 111SKIN) is totally non invasive and I have a party tonight so I need to look good and don’t have time for downtime or redness.
PREPARATION
There is no prep. I turn up at 10am and meet Samia who talks me through the process. She is an Aesthetician and totally puts me at ease. I look around the room and she can see I am taking in all these laser machines that look like robots. Samia talks me through the machines and what they do.
The Harmony laser machine uses a skin resurfacing laser to separate light into numerous fractions that penetrate deeply into the skin’s dermis. This means that the skin is rejuvenated below the surface. The Q-switched laser is also used to remove unwanted brown spots, sun freckles, or even tattoos from your skin if you wanted that. The laser energy pulse, which is in billionths of a second, releases the pigment into the skin so it can be naturally reabsorbed and disposed of by the body.
THE TREATMENT
The key element of the treatment is that it promotes collagen production so the treatment lifts and tightens my face in addition to combating hyperpigmentation, scarring, acne and blocked pores with no downtime. After all I still have that party later. The facial incorporates the use of a dermapen, the latest in micro needling technology together with skin products developed by the clinic.
Dermapen vs micro-needling: Unlike other micro-needling devices, the Dermapen has spring loaded tips which creates a safer treatment and puts the skin at less risk of damage. Micro-needling has become a popular home treatment, but as they say, the deeper the penetration (into the skin) the better as greater depths will achieve better results.
After cleansing, the micropen is worked across my face to make precise micro-punctures in the skin. I already feel the bumps on my nose disappearing and finally having a smooth feel on the skin of my nose. I could get used to these instant results.
The laser feels weird to start with but you get used to it really quickly and it isn’t painful at all. Yes you can smell a little burning but that is all normal and again you get used to it. I actually started falling asleep then realised where I was!
Samia then tells me we are going to work around the delicate eye area. I get under eye bags no matter how much I sleep so I am willing to try anything to get rid of these bags. The bags remain but I will need a series of treatments in conjunction with a proper serum routine to help. My lips even got the laser micropen treatment which gave them an instant plumpness that lasted a few hours for the party.
To end, Samia applies a 111SKIN bio cellulose mask that uses plant cellulose technology to create a second skin to repair the micro-punctures. It is soothing my skin by regulating its temperature.
To get me party ready, the 111SKIN celestial black diamond cream (which uses black diamond nano particles that travel deeper into the layers of skin) makes my skin literally glow.
AFTER THE TREATMENT
I felt the difference straight away. My skin is softer and plumper. Samia also gives me a rose gold illuminating eye mask to use at home. I saw some improvement in my overall skin condition around 5 weeks following the treatment.
Overall, I was really impressed with the whole experience. I was put at ease and everything was explained so clearly. I was also impressed with the range of products that Dr. Yannis has produced.
